Finally, lyx is working again with Acrobat Reader 7.0.
One problem was that I had updated ghostscript to AFPL version 8.51. Big
mistake apparently!
Reverting to ESP ghostscript version 7.07 seemed cured my problem.

Another idea would be to use ViewPDF (pdflatex) which uses the pdflatex
compiler to generate a .pdf file directly from your .tex file.
Or use the tex2pdf
