Problem sorted out---and it had nothing to do with Lyx. It was my fault
entirily---I had two files with almost identical filenames and different
encodings.
Sorry for the noise.

General request: LyX should have the option of exporting just the latex
code, without trying to convert pictures. Now if a picture already exists,
it just gives the option of 'overwrite', 'overwrite all' or 'cancel', but
no option to skip the export of that particular
Thanks, those two tickets exactly describe my problems.
Hopefully they will get fixed in some future release
To me, latex export is essential, a precondition for using LyX. I export
all my LyX document to Latex. The reason is that I want to make
sure that I can also edit them 20 years from now.

Actually, this leads to my
next enhancement request: An option for LyX
to automatically keep a backup copy of all documents in latex format.
Has this been discussed before?
Not that I remember.

Hi, I use LyX 1.3.6 (from Debian etch).
I export my file in latex, and then I do this:
$ latex thesis-komascript.tex
Is this correct, or shall I use another command line?
That looks correct.
I get some warnings:
TeX Warning: Citation `key-3' on page 4 undefined on input
