in my experience it will not work. time is wasted on converting documents from lyx2word and visa versa. a lot of time! its a pain in the arse working in word, but so be it. a lot about this issue is already written in the lyx wiki and in previous threads on this mail list. do check it out! sorr

I successfully persuaded my adviser to install lyx. He does not know how to insert a formula, but making small changes has been easy. BTW, with the new windows installer (I mean the non-official one), even your advisor can install lyx. :-) Bo.
