2005-01-12 Thread Hank Stevens
Hi folks,
My View menu has no conversions listed in it, so I cannot view my files
in final format. Nor can I print them, as the print option in the File
menu is not active.
I was hoping someone might be able to perhaps head me in the right
direction to figure out the solution.
I sent this plea for assistance under the subject no conversion.

I am using Mac OS 10.3.7, LyX 1.3.5
I just reloaded LyX and TeX and assorted packages from the Yale mirror
of Gerben Wierdas teTeX http://www.rna.nl/tex.html implementation.
During that process, the dialogue warned me against installing iconv.
When I am in LyX, I have no options to view my document in any format
(no options in the View menu). I tried to include converters in my
preferences that I have on another machine, but none of the actual
converters stick (I cannot type in and save dvipdfm $$i).
I have to teach class in a couple hours and need these converters. Any
suggestions? Should I load the inconv support?

Thanks,
Hank

Equation labelling

2005-01-12 Thread Vaibhav Srivastava
Hi ,
I am new to Lyx. I have a problem with Lyx in equation labeling in the
math mode. I use the version 1.3.1
In UserGuide it has shown how to label equations and when I do
Insert-Label from the math mode in the users guide and enter a label
then it works by showing (mathed:label). However when I am working with
my document and do the same then it does not do.
However if I copy and paste from user guide onto my document then it
shows that.
for eg 2-1=1 (mathed:first-equn) would show in the user guide and if I
paste on my document then also it will work
But it will not work if I wrote 2-1=1(in mat mode of course ) and then
did Insert-Label-mathed:first-equn

Please tell me what could be going wrong
Thanks

first page footer instead of page number

2005-01-12 Thread faunt
Hi, I'm trying to get fancy footers and NO fancy headers on the first page
in an article class without losing the fancy headers and footers I have
on
subsequent pages. It's driving me crazy.

I want to replace the page number '1' on the first page footer with a
fancy footer (the same one as on subsequent pages) WITHOUT adding a fancy
header to the first page.

I'm trying to re-work my preamble to do this and am failing.
Can't find the documentation that answers this. Help? A help document name
would be great if it contains the answer.

thanks,jamie faunt

In the other, Latex processing on document fails because the bibliogrphy

You need to provide a definition with \DeclareInputText or

What has me baffled is that it works on one, but not the other.

in final format. Nor can I print them, as the print option in the File
menu is not active.
I was hoping someone might be able to perhaps head me in the right
direction to figure out the solution.
I sent this plea for assistance under the subject "no conversion".

I am using Mac OS 10.3.7, LyX 1.3.5
I just reloaded LyX and TeX and assorted packages from the Yale mirror
of Gerben Wierda’s teTeX implementation.
During that process, the dialogue warned me against installing iconv.
When I am in LyX, I have no options to view my document in any format
(no options in the "View" menu). I tried to include converters in my
preferences that I have on another machine, but none of the actual
converters stick (I cannot type in and save "dvipdfm $$i").
I have to teach class in a couple hours and need these converters. Any
suggestions? Should I load the inconv support?

Thanks,
Hank

Equation labelling

2005-01-12 Thread Vaibhav Srivastava
Hi ,
I am new to Lyx. I have a problem with Lyx in equation labeling in the
math mode. I use the version 1.3.1
In UserGuide it has shown how to label equations and when I do
Insert->Label from the math mode in the users guide and enter a label
then it works by showing (mathed:label). However when I am working with
my document and do the same then it does not do.
However if I copy and paste from user guide onto my document then it
shows that.
for eg 2-1=1 (mathed:first-equn) would show in the user guide and if I
paste on my document then also it will work
But it will not work if I wrote 2-1=1(in mat mode of course ) and then
did Insert->Label->mathed:first-equn

What happens if you have the cursor inside the equation and you use the
menu Insert -> Layout? Does the dialog pops up? If yes what happens when
you enter some text to this dialog and then press "OK"?

Jürgen,

Well, there's a bit of progress to report. Now that the document is 10
pages long (in 2 chapters), the section heads appear on the even-number
pages, but the chapter titles do not appear on the odd-number pages. The
opposite of what you've seen.

Why the section titles were not visible before I don't know.

Thanks,

Rich

Oops! I have it backwards: the chapter titles are present on the
even-number pages and the section titles are missing. Same as you've seen.
Glad I checked!

Just a thoughtare you using an "inline formula" (C-m) or a "display
formula" (S-C-M) ?

The label will only appear for a display formula, not an inline.

Cannot view pdf output

2005-01-12 Thread Shailesh Ashok Shirali
Dear Sirs,
I am a very recent user of LyX; I use the Windows implementation
(LyX 1.3.5). I have been using LaTeX for more than a decade, and
am slowly getting used to the LyX approach. I like it.

While I have no difficulty in getting dvi output, I am unable to
get a pdf output. When I do "View>PDF" I get the following
message:

"Cannot view file. No information for viewing PDF (dvipdfm)."
This is so both with dvipdfm and pdflatex. Clearly, I have to
reset some configuration file, but I don't know which one or how.
I am not able to find any answer to this in the Wiki help pages.

I would be grateful for help on this matter from some experienced
LyX user. Thanks a lot.

Shailesh Shirali

lyx/latex works on some computers, not others

2005-01-12 Thread Paul Johnson
I have 2 Fedora Core 3 systems. On one, everything is fine.
In the other, Latex processing on document fails because the bibliogrphy
has some accented characters in it. The LaTeX error in the Lyx document
is "Package inputenc Error: Keyboard character is undefined
[then it lists a snip from the bib entry]
You need to provide a definition with \DeclareInputText or
\DeclareInputMath before using this key.

What has me baffled is that it works on one, but not the other.
I do not know much about LANG or locale, can you give me a pointer?

I'm not sure what you have to type in the mini-buffer, but the shortcut
key is C-m for inline formula and S-C-M for display formula. Otherwise,
use Insert->Math->Display Formula from the toolbar.

I think that the equation label should then work.

Thanks for replying. When I do Insert->label in math mode it shows eq:

Then you used an inline formula. You can only number displayed formulas
(formulas in their own "paragraph"). To create a displayed formula you
can use the short cut C-S-m (Control-Shift-m) or the menu Insert->Math->
Display Formula.

*Lyx version* 1.3.1
*Platform *Win XP
BTW. there is a new version available: LyX 1.3.5 for Win, see

book chapter

2005-01-12 Thread Myriam Abramson

I used one of the class provided by the publisher. Is it possible to
provide the publisher with the tex output exported from Lyx while the
other authors provide non-Lyx tex output for the other chapters? Can
they be mixed together?

Re: first page footer instead of page number

2005-01-12 Thread faunt
Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. I managed to get the footers I want on both
pages (2-page doc). I want to keep the header I have on page 2 but get rid
of it on page 1. And that's what I can't seem to do.

Maybe your suggestion would work if I went back to page number and no
header on page 1 and added the footer with ERT on page 1. I'm not sure if
it would replace the page number though. I'll try it.

thanks,
jamie

I'm not sure I exactly understand what you want to do, but I'll try and add
something constructive.

Have you tried to include an ERT of \cfoot{Whatever you want on page 1} on
the first page, then on the second page another ERT of \cfoot{\thepage} ?
Obviously this would require you to include a pagebreak between the two ERT's
so that they appear as expected...but I think it may be a workaround to your
problem.

Someone with more knowledge than me may be able to offer you a better
solution...but just something to think about.

Lata,
Paul
