Natbib sort and compress

Hi I was under the impression that the sort and compress option was on by default if one chose natbib in lyx. My setup doesnt do this and instead i get [1,2,3,4,5] and the only workaround i could find was to uncheck natbib and put a \usepackage in the preamble. Am I missing
