How to implement batch convertion on equations style.

2009-02-12 Thread Laser Yuan
I have attached the sample file bellow. I have put many equations in arrays
since I want to get multiline equation with single label and align them to
the left. But it turned out that elements in the array are not in display
style. Finally, I found using aligned AMS environment is what I desired. I
just need to put all of them to the second column to get them align left.
But situation now is that I have so many equations need to perform this
conversion. Could anybody give a suggest on what I shall do to minimize the
workload. Thanks in advance!

Problem with lyx 1.6.1

2009-02-12 Thread Micha Feigin
I am using lyx 1.6.1 in debian unstable. Lately I'm getting a LOT of lockups
with lyx (every 20 minutes or so) requiring me to kill lyx. Running it from the
console show the following error is just flooding the screen:

../../../src/support/lassert.cpp(21): ASSERTION pos >= 0 && pos <= size()
VIOLATED IN ../../src/Paragraph.cpp:474

Any ideas what is causing this?

thanks

Hello Maria,

we fixed all critical longtable bugs in the for the next LyX release LyX 1.6.2. This will version
will be released so I hope you don't need to use LyX 1.5.x for longtables anymore.

Hi

I also stumbled upon this problem. Here are two workarounds that will at least
get things to compile correctly:
1. After importing add to the latex preamble in lyx (under Document-Setting) the
following  :
\theoremstyle{plain}
\newtheorem{thm}{Theorem}
  \theoremstyle{plain}
  \newtheorem{lem}[thm]{Lemma}

This is an example for theorem and lemma. You will find the right things to add
in the latex file your are importing so its really just cut and paste

2. Insert text with whatever paragraph style you are missing . Doing this once
for every style is enough. For example, go to the first lemma, delete the latex
code and mark it as a lemma in lyx. All lemmas will now compile correctly.

Hope it helps

What happens if you run epstopdf on the EPS figures outside LyX (in
a shell)?

Thanks for the suggestion, Paul. The problem turned out to be the
previews (thumbnails) contained in the eps figures. When I saved the
figures without the previews, all was copacetic. I'm not sure why the
figures (the originals that contained previews) compiled just fine
back in September. Perhaps I was using an earlier version of LyX then
-- I'm not sure when I updated to 1.5.6 -- and perhaps the versions
differed in whether they choke on eps figure previews.

Put the module into your local LyX layout directory, then reconfigure.

I don't know how well that code reacts to filenames with spaces in them,
so you might want to do: nikos_thesis.module.

Re: Question on managing templates and features

Jay Austad wrote:
Can LyX provide the functionality that I need? I installed it, but the

work with SVN? I couldn't find documentation on that.

The file you're editing has already be registered with version control.
So you have to `svn co' or whatever first, to get the relevant file
checked out. Then open it in LyX. Now the VC menu will be populated, and
you can check out new versions, check in edits, etc. Pavel Sanda
implemented the svn support and is the current expert on VC in LyX. I'm
sure he'd be happy to answer questions.

Is there a way to do the templating and selection of sections in a
reasonable way in LyX? Maybe the master doc is created with a bunch of
includes in it that has every include available, and then sections
that I don't want can be commented out, and sections I want can be
uncommented.

LyX has support for templates. Selection of sections could be done in a
wide variety of ways. Probably the most high-tech would be to use
branches. So maybe you have a handful of these, (de)activating them to
turn on or off various things. Of course, you can also just delete what
you don't need in a given case.

If I have an include in a document, is there any way in LyX to pull
that content out of the include and just insert it directly into the
master document? Or could something be done using the tab support and
opening each section in it's own tab for ease of navigation?

No to the former. The latter is pretty much how it works by default.
When you open the master, all the children are opened in the background,
though not in the GUI, and they then appear on the "View" menu, at which
point they can easily be opened in their own tabs. The Outliner will
show you the whole master document, too, and if you click on some
section in a child, the child will appear in a tab.

Can LyX collapse sections within a document if I'm not working on that
particular section?

Oft requested, but doesn't currently exist UNLESS these sections are in
branches, in which case they can be collapsed. So if you really want to
collapse, just put each section in a branch. They call all be the same
branch.

If this is something that is too complex for the user's to learn, it's
something that will never happen. So it would need to be laid out and
simplified as much as possible, and ideally everything would need to
be done through LyX and without requiring the use of extra software
apps directly (such as svn commands on the command line)

As I said, the only command line stuff necessary will be the initial
set-up of the svn-controlled directory. Once that's done, everything
else can happen from within LyX.

Of course you can run lyx off a usb stick too. Nice for demonstrations.
But I think there will be people who find it cumbersome to insert the
