Create my own module
Dear LyX users, I am using LyX 2.0.0 (on both Windows and Linux). How can I create my own module and add it to the list in "Document Settings"? For instance, I have put the following commands in the preamble in order to create a "balanced index" \RequirePackage{multicol} \renewenvironment{theindex}{ \columnseprule 0pt\relax \columnsep 35pt\relax \chapter*{\indexname} \begin{multicols}{2} \@mkboth{\MakeUppercase \indexname}{\MakeUppercase \indexname} \thispagestyle{plain} \parindent 0pt\relax \parskip 0pt \@plus .3pt\relax \let\item\@idxitem} {\end{multicols}} Nevertheless, if I were able to collect these commands in a module, I could use them in a much easier way. Thank you, Francesco -- Francesco Menoncin Università degli Studi di Brescia Facoltà di Economia Via S. The key is being printed instead of the citation, and it is in the text, not in a footnote. Example: This is a test.aristotle:metaphy:gr If I put \footcite{aristotle:metaphy:gr} in ERT, I get get a footnote number in the text as follows: This is a test.1 but in the footnote itself only the key prints: 1 aristotle:metaphy:gr Many thanks for helping me with this. Re: biblatex-chicago
As for the footnotes, you first have to use a biblatex style that automatically makes use of "\footcite". For this, you need to add the "citestyle" option citestyle=verbose-trad1 . What I usually do is that I renew a command like "\citep" into "\autocite" adding the following command to the preamble: \renewcommand\citep{\autocite} As for the lack of references in the footnotes, it might be due to the lack of the bibliography's full path in the preamble. Try this and let me know. There have been some reports of such errors under Windows 7. They seem to involve LyX's not finding the correct Python interpreter. Perhaps someone on Windows can help with this. Footnotes, new numbers from each chapter...
Dear all: Is there some way I could start the footnote number new with each chapter -- that is, it should start from 1, 2, 3 etc at the start of every chapter? Many thanks in advance. Author-Year-Page Citation Style
I have a document in the Article (Elsevier) class, with Natbib Author- Year selected under Bibliography and \usepackage{natbib} in the preamble. I have a bibtex generated bibliography using the .bst style file of the journal which is in the folder with my document. The bibliography is coming out fine, but the citations in the text should be, say, [Newton, 1999, 407] and I'm getting a numerical style with no brackets: 12, 407. LyX 1.6.5 on a Mac Any suggestions would be welcome. Bruce P.S. I can live with a numerical style if I have to -- the journal will convert the numerical style to author-year (at least they did the last time) -- but I still would need the brackets: [12, 407], not just 12, 407.

Re: Author-Year-Page Citation Style
You don't need \usepackage{natbib} in the preamble, but select the natbib option in Document -> Settings -> Bibliography. There you can also select Author,Year. For square brackets add "square" to the options in Document -> Settings -> Document Class -> Custom. I hope this helps. How to change the default setting of inserting a graph?
Dear lyx users, I am using lyx 2.0 on windows 7. I just keep lyx as simple editor of writing progress report every week. Often I need to insert figures, but the figures usually have different original size. Lyx seems to insert graphs using their original size as default. But sometimes big figure even exceeds the right boundary of the page. Then I need to make it smaller manually through the graph dialog box. So I want to change the default to be like as wide as the text width. How can I do in the preamble? I am simply using the document class "article". Thanks for any help! -- Cheers, Zhaorong Wang "Our first endeavors are purely instinctive prompting of an imagination vivid and undisciplined.
