can't fire up LyX

2000-10-06 Thread Kan Chee Siong

I tried to install LyX on a PC running windows98, not connected to network.
But get the following error message when I try to fire up the LyX:

Not enough environment space.

I can fire up the Xwin32 manually. The IP add. set in Xwin32 was 127.0.0.1

Thanks

i don't really know what's you problem. mybe it's the pagenumber or
the style of the pagenumber.

\pagenumbering{roman}
before the first page gives I II III and so on.

\pagenumbering{arabic}
before chapter 1.

if you want no pagenumbering on the first page write
\thispagestyle{empty}

How to make accentued caracter in \mbox{} math mode

2000-10-06 Thread Yann MORERE

Hello lyx users,

I writing my phd thesis, and i have to make this style of equations
 prémisse
  __^
x=dfdfdfdfdfhh

so when editing the equation in math mode, lyx doesn't allow me to type
é or \'e in the \mbox{}

if i edit the generated tex file i can had the desired accentued
caracter like

%% LyX 1.1 created this file. For more info, see http://www.lyx.org/.
%% Do not edit unless you really know what you are doing.
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}

\makeatletter

%% LyX specific LaTeX commands.
\providecommand{\LyX}{L\kern-.1667em\lower.25em\hbox{Y}\kern-.125emX\@}

\makeatother

\begin{document}

\[
top^{\mbox{pr\'e misse}}\]

or

\[
top^{\mbox{prémisse}}\]

\end{document}

so the question could be resumed : how to type directly accentued
caracter in math mode

thanks for quick reply... i've got a thesis to write ;-)

I tried this with 'lyx -dbg 4' and it gives me this:

  LyX: Bad key sequence: `apostrophe' [around line 135 of file ~/.lyx/bind/cua.bind]
  LyX: Bad key sequence: `grave' [around line 136 of file ~/.lyx/bind/cua.bind]

Using ' and ` (even inside double quotes) instead of apostrophe and
grave gives me this:

  RC_BIND: Sequence `'' Command `accent-acute' Action `74'
  LyX: Invalid key sequence `'' [around line 135 of file ~/.lyx/bind/cua.bind]
  RC_BIND: Sequence ``' Command `accent-breve' Action `82'
  LyX: Invalid key sequence ``' [around line 136 of file ~/.lyx/bind/cua.bind]

What does "dead-key" mean actually? I'm using a regular 104-key
keyboard with US layout.

OK. I defined my own italian.kmap which simply contains:

  \kmod ' acute aeiouAEIOU
  \kmod ` grave aeiouAEIOU

And it works just as I wanted when I switch to secondary keymap. Now I
just need to dig the manual to find out what the shortcut key to
switch between keymaps.

Thank you for your help.

Hi!

My report-class document shows multiple Page 1's as
page-numbering for the first pages (e.g. for the abstract-page and the
directory-pages). Then with the first page of the chapter 1 starts again with a
page 1. Why that?

Is there a method to change this?

Hi all

I am sorry if this problem is off topic.

I am trying to translate several word documents to lyx and I use Star
Office to read the word document and then I use rtf2latex2e to produce
the tex file from rtf format and finally I import the tex file into lyx
and the final result looks pretty nice.

The problem that I have is related to the accents. When I use the
spellchecker option of lyx (input encoding switch to ispell active) the
words with accents are detected as wrongs,instead they have put the
accent correctly. Somebody has experience the same behaviour ? Could
somebody tell me where the problem is ? I mean, I am not sure if the
problem is related with rtf2latex or with the import of lyx.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This should be (untested)

I think that using a keymap is better, especially since you could have

The main problem for versions newer than 1.1.0 is that you need a real
C++ compiler, meaning that the minimal version is g++ 2.8.1. If you
are stuck with gcc 2.7.x, you should get lyx 1.0.4. You should of
course have xforms (0.88 at least), tetex, ghostscript, perl5 (to
import latex) and some other things I forgot.

You can use the M option of tar to break files on several floppies
automatically.

The later version is not backward compatible, and I am not even sure
it is fully forward compatible with 0.12.0.

How do I enter a < in docbook document

2000-10-06 Thread duncan . webb

What I would like to do is to enter a code example in a document based on the docbook
template that includes the codes <> and []

The paragraph has been marked as code and when I enter:
command [] the text in the angle brackets does not appear.

I've also tried to enter the <> in match mode but again none of the math stuff appears.

Does anybody know of a solution for this. I cannot find the answer in the help.

As I am trying to finish my thesis and I have
to integrate word documents on it, this is
my philosophy (c; :
- Don't use the same tools for importing to Word and Exporting to Word
- Don't be foolish, a common file format (HTML, RTF etc.) acceptable for
both systems (tex & Word) does not exist
- For Importing from MS-Word, I used Word2tex, tex tweaking and ReLyX
and it worked for most
  of it
- For Exporting to MS-Word, use either an rtf exporter (but beware of
the rtf version !!!) or
  HTML or something else, it all depends on your word version (6, 95,
97, 2000 ?)
- But as it has been said above, for read-only PDF is really your
friend.

I remember an old joke that said if we had a computer with
the computing power of a cray, smaller than a watch with
a 5 meters diameter video screen etc.
What would people ask first ?
-> Is it PC compatible, Windows run on it ?
I think the same applies for Ms-word and other word processors...
