Multilingual Babel in LyX

2002-06-13 Thread Francis Girard

Hello,

I'm typing a french text with some citations in english.
I'm using lyx1.1.6fix4.

I therefore selected frenchb in lyx. I'd like to use some Babel commands
or environemnt
like :

\begin{otherlanguage}{english}
...
\end{otherlanguage}

The problem here is that latex gives me an error that says that the english
language had not been defined yet.

I therefore added (from lyx) the command :

\usepackage[english, french]{babel}

But here latex gives me another error that says that I'm trying to redefine
babel options and that it clashes with previuous declaration of the babel
package.

The only way I found to make it works is to export the lyx file to latex and
then to substitute the line :

\documentclass[a4paper,frenchb]{article}

with

\documentclass[a4paper,english,frenchb]{article}

and this is quite annoying.

Is there some way to do this from within lyx ?
Is there some extra functionality in lyx 1.2.0 and fix this problem ?

Thank you

Hi there!

Compiling lyx from source with SuSe7.2 doesn't work.
I think the error is somewhere in sigc++ because:

Thank you for any help!

Including a separate ascii file in LyX

I am convinced their is a way to include an ascii (bash script) document
without losing the whitespace at the begining of each line - but I do not
know how. Can anyone suggest a way to get scripts included as external
files - so that the scripts can still be edited independantly ??

functionality?

Thanks,

Rotating foils in seminar.sty

Hi,

I'm working on a presentation with seminar.sty and lyx. Alle the slides
are in portrait mode - I specified that in the document options
portrait. I would like to generate the listofslides in landscpape mode
because I have pretty long slide- and subslideheadings so it looks not
very
well in portrait mode. I read the faq for seminar.sty and worked with
/rotateheaderstrue - but it does not effect anything.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks for your help!

If you start fdesign and go to Form-New form, can you paste into

Dear Francis,
I am referring to LyX 1.1.6, perhaps it is similar in 1.2.0:
Under Edit/Settings there is the point Languages, and again the point
Language. Here you find the point Package, the default is probably
\usepackage[english]{babel}. Change this to, for example,
\usepackage[french,english]{babel}, or whatever language you need. The last
language option set is the default, all other languages with their
hyphenation patterns and specialities are loaded within the document with
\selectlanguage{french}, for example.
Do not invoke \usepackage{babel} a second time under Layout/LaTeX preamble,
otherwise you get the problems you mentioned.
Happy texing
Tobias

Special math characters

What do I need to do to have LyX show me symbols like \ast and \Subset directly in the

Any help appreciated!

For the file, mathed.lyx:

Table 2: - epsilon and varrho don't work
3: - 13 of these work
4: - roughly half work
5: arrows - roughly 1/4 work
6: - roughly half work
7: var-sizes symbols - 3 work
8: - everything
9: - 4 don't work
10: large delims - all don't work
11: math constructs - all work
12onwards: - none work
lasttable: - \angle works (all the rest don't)

   what is in xlsfonts ?
I tried to get an output of xlsfonts to you but is was to big...

I hope this can describe the problem...

could you possibly run the following at the command prompt:

##
  This looks for all the fonts.dir files
(that contain the expanded info and the filenames of all fontfiles in
their respective directory) and display the font directories that
contains your substitute font

grep -l eufrak $(locate fonts.dir)

Then type goto the directory that contains the respective font, and type :

grep eufrak fonts.dir

This will give you the line of the font and file that lyx would be
using. Doing this for eufrak, eus, lcrm, lcry, lcrv may resolve where
your font server is obtaining these respective fonts from...

thanks,
Pierre

Thank you for any help!

Including a separate ascii file in LyX

2002-06-13 Thread geoff mcnamara

I am convinced their is a way to include an ascii (bash script) document
without losing the whitespace at the begining of each line - but I do not
know how. Can anyone suggest a way to get scripts included as external
files - so that the scripts can still be edited independantly ??

Please...

1.2 - Can't paste with middle mouse button

then paste it into LyX with a middle mouse button click. However, in
v.1.2 I can no longer do this. Any ideas how to return this
functionality?

Thanks,

Rotating foils in seminar.sty

2002-06-13 Thread Thorsten Grothe

Does it run any clipboard-type thing too ? Have you tried disabling it ?

What xforms version are you using ?

What application are you pasting from ? If they all fail, give examples.

Tobias

Special math characters

have a question:

What do I need to do to have LyX show me symbols like \ast and \Subset directly in the
edit window (just like it does with \alpha and \leq)?

Any help appreciated!

   Are the other AMS stuff showing up ?

For the file, mathed.lyx:

Table 1: Math mode accents - everything
Table 2: - epsilon and varrho don't work
3: - 13 of these work
4: - roughly half work
5: arrows - roughly 1/4 work
6: - roughly half work
7: var-sizes symbols - 3 work
8: - everything
9: - 4 don't work
10: large delims - all don't work
11: math constructs - all work
12onwards: - none work
lasttable: - \angle works (all the rest don't)

   what is in xlsfonts ?
I tried to get an output of xlsfonts to you but is was to big...

I hope this can describe the problem...

could you possibly run the following at the command prompt:

##
  This looks for all the fonts.dir files
(that contain the expanded info and the filenames of all fontfiles in
their respective directory) and display the font directories that
contains your substitute font

grep -l eufrak $(locate fonts.dir)

Then type goto the directory that contains the respective font, and type :

grep eufrak fonts.dir

This will give you the line of the font and file that lyx would be
using. Doing this for eufrak, eus, lcrm, lcry, lcrv may resolve where
your font server is obtaining these respective fonts from...

thanks,
Pierre

equations over multiple lines

Hi,
I'm wanting to get multiple lines of an equation because its to big...
I'm having to resort to using ERT for the whole equation because I want
to use the ams \begin{split} command
to perform this feature. I noticed that there's a whole heap of

Insert -> Maths -> AMS ***

 features which I assumed would let me do the same thing, (except with a
nice gui) but when I used it, it said "command-disabled"

how do I enable it, or isn't it finished yet??

Including a separate ascii file in LyX

2002-06-13 Thread geoff mcnamara

I am convinced their is a way to include an ascii (bash script) document
without losing the whitespace at the begining of each line - but I do not
know how. Can anyone suggest a way to get scripts included as external
files - so that the scripts can still be edited independantly ??

Please...
Thanks

1.2 - Can't paste with middle mouse button

2002-06-13 Thread Matt Brennan

In v. 1.1, I used to be able to highlight text in a non-LyX window and
then paste it into LyX with a middle mouse button click. However, in
v.1.2 I can no longer do this. Any ideas how to return this
functionality?

Thanks,

Matt

Works fine for me. Are you using KDE by any chance ?

Rotating foils in seminar.sty

2002-06-13 Thread Thorsten Grothe

Hi,

I'm working on a presentation with seminar.sty and lyx. Alle the slides
are in portrait mode - I specified that in the document options
"portrait".

Under gnome ?

Does it run any clipboard-type thing too ? Have you tried disabling it ?

What xforms version are you using ?

What application are you pasting from ? If they all fail, give examples.

If you start "fdesign" and go to Form->New form, can you paste into
there ?

2002-06-13 Thread Jens Thos

Hi!

I switched to LyX 1.2.0 today and am really impressed with the changes. But I still
have a question:

What do I need to do to have LyX show me symbols like \ast and \Subset directly in the
edit window (just like it does with \alpha and \leq)?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Read "mathed.lyx" in examples

Hi John,
I've read the mathed.lyx file, and found the script... My problem is,
I've got all the files except for the following:

eufr10.pfb
eusr10.pfb
plcrm.pfa
plcry.pfa
plcrv.pfa

I've searched for a few on Google, and also through all the RPMS that
come with RH7.3, but can seem to find these files...

I don't have these either, and \ast and \Subset work fine

I installed loads of latex fonts whilst testing though, so I might have
similar ones or something. I don't know how it works.

Are the other AMS stuff showing up ? what is in xlsfonts ?

For the file, mathed.lyx:

Table 1: Math mode accents -> everything
Table 2: -> epsilon and varrho don't work
3: -> 13 of these work
4: -> roughly half work
5: arrows -> roughly 1/4 work
6: -> roughly half work
7: var-sizes symbols -> 3 work
8: -> everything
9: -> 4 don't work
10: large delims -> all don't work
11: math constructs -> all work
12onwards: -> none work
lasttable: -> \angle works (all the rest don't)

  > what is in xlsfonts ?
I tried to get an output of xlsfonts to you but is was to big...

I hope this can describe the problem...

could you possibly run the following at the command prompt:

##
  This looks for all the fonts.dir files
(that contain the expanded info and the filenames of all fontfiles in
their respective directory) and display the font directories that
contains your substitute font

grep -l eufrak $(locate fonts.dir)

Then type goto the directory that contains the respective font, and type :

grep eufrak fonts.dir

This will give you the line of the font and file that lyx would be
using. Doing this for eufrak, eus, lcrm, lcry, lcrv may resolve where
your font server is obtaining these respective fonts from...

thanks,
Pierre
