Multilingual Babel in LyX
Hello, I'm typing a french text with some citations in english. I'm using lyx1.1.6fix4. I therefore selected frenchb in lyx. I'd like to use some Babel commands or environemnt like : \begin{otherlanguage}{english} ... \end{otherlanguage} The problem here is that latex gives me an error that says that the english language had not been defined yet. I therefore added (from lyx) the command : \usepackage[english, french]{babel} But here latex gives me another error that says that I'm trying to redefine babel options and that it clashes with previuous declaration of the babel package. The only way I found to make it works is to export the lyx file to latex and then to substitute the line : \documentclass[a4paper,frenchb]{article} with \documentclass[a4paper,english,frenchb]{article} and this is quite annoying. Is there some way to do this from within lyx ? Is there some extra functionality in lyx 1.2.0 and fix this problem ? Here you find the point Package, the default is probably \usepackage[english]{babel}. Change this to, for example, \usepackage[french,english]{babel}, or whatever language you need. The last language option set is the default, all other languages with their hyphenation patterns and specialities are loaded within the document with \selectlanguage{french}, for example. Do not invoke \usepackage{babel} a second time under Layout/LaTeX preamble, otherwise you get the problems you mentioned. Happy texing Tobias

So, please respond by email, and thanks in advance for any tips. best, MVR email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ./configure --prefix=/opt/lyx-1.2.0 --with-extra-lib=/usr/local/lib --with-extra-includes=/usr/local/include --disable-nls --with-pspell --enable-optimization=-O2 --without-latex-config creating cache ./config.cache ... /bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link g++ -O2 -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -L/usr/local/lib -o lyx BufferView.o BufferView2.o BufferView_pimpl.o Bullet.o Chktex.o ColorHandler.o CutAndPaste.o DepTable.o FloatList.o Floating.o FontInfo.o FontLoader.o FuncStatus.o LColor.o LaTeX.o LaTeXFeatures.o LyXAction.o LyXView.o MenuBackend.o Painter.o PainterBase.o ParagraphParameters.o Spacing.o TextCache.o Thesaurus.o ToolbarDefaults.o WorkArea.o XFormsView.o box.o buffer.o bufferlist.o bufferparams.o bufferview_funcs.o chset.o converter.o debug.o encoding.o exporter.o font.o gettext.o importer.o intl.o iterators.o kbmap.o kbsequence.o language.o lastfiles.o lengthcommon.o lyx_cb.o lyx_gui.o lyx_main.o lyx_sty.o lyxcursor.o lyxfont.o lyxfind.o lyxfunc.o lyxgluelength.o lyxlayout.o lyxlength.o lyxlex.o lyxlex_pimpl.o lyxlookup.o lyxrc.o lyxrow.o lyxserver.o lyxtextclass.o lyxtextclasslist.o lyxvc.o main.o minibuffer.o paragraph.o paragraph_pimpl.o screen.o sp_spell.o tabular.o tabular-old.o tabular_funcs.o tex-accent.o tex-strings.o texrow.o text.o text2.o tracer.o trans.o trans_mgr.o undo.o undo_funcs.o undostack.o vc-backend.o version.o vspace.o mathed/libmathed.la insets/libinsets.la frontends/libfrontends.la graphics/libgraphics.la support/libsupport.la `../sigc++/sigc-config --libs-names | sed -e 's/-lsigc//'` ../sigc++/libsigc.la -L/usr/local/lib -lpspell -lSM -lICE -liberty -lc -lm -L/usr/lib/X11R6 -lX11 mkdir .libs g++ -O2 -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -o lyx BufferView.o BufferView2.o BufferView_pimpl.o Bullet.o Chktex.o ColorHandler.o CutAndPaste.o DepTable.o FloatList.o Floating.o FontInfo.o FontLoader.o FuncStatus.o LColor.o LaTeX.o LaTeXFeatures.o LyXAction.o LyXView.o MenuBackend.o Painter.o PainterBase.o ParagraphParameters.o Spacing.o TextCache.o Thesaurus.o ToolbarDefaults.o WorkArea.o XFormsView.o box.o buffer.o bufferlist.o bufferparams.o bufferview_funcs.o chset.o converter.o debug.o encoding.o exporter.o font.o gettext.o importer.o intl.o iterators.o kbmap.o kbsequence.o language.o lastfiles.o lengthcommon.o lyx_cb.o lyx_gui.o lyx_main.o lyx_sty.o lyxcursor.o lyxfont.o lyxfind.o lyxfunc.o lyxgluelength.o lyxlayout.o lyxlength.o lyxlex.o lyxlex_pimpl.o lyxlookup.o lyxrc.o lyxrow.o lyxserver.o lyxtextclass.o lyxtextclasslist.o lyxvc.o main.o minibuffer.o paragraph.o paragraph_pimpl.o screen.o sp_spell.o tabular.o tabular-old.o tabular_funcs.o tex-accent.o tex-strings.o texrow.o text.o text2.o tracer.o trans.o trans_mgr.o undo.o undo_funcs.o undostack.o vc-backend.o version.o vspace.o -L/usr/local/lib mathed/.libs/libmathed.a insets/.libs/libinsets.a frontends/.libs/libfrontends.a -lforms -lXpm graphics/.libs/libgraphics.a support/.libs/libsupport.a ../sigc++/.libs/libsigc.a /opt/pspell/lib/libpspell.sl /opt/pspell/lib/libpspell-modules.sl -L/lib/pa1.1 -L/usr/lib/pa1.1 -L/opt/gcc/lib/gcc-lib/hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20/2.95.2 -L/usr/ccs/bin -L/usr/ccs/lib -L/opt/gcc/lib -lstdc++ -lSM -lICE -liberty -lc -lm -L/usr/lib/X11R6 -lX11 -Wl,+b -Wl,/opt/pspell/lib /usr/ccs/bin/ld: Unsatisfied symbols: ControlDialog::hide() (code) ControlInset::params()(code) ControlInset ::apply() (code) ButtonController ::ButtonController[in-charge](std::basic_string const&, std::basic_string const&)(code) ControlInset ::params() (code) ControlInset ::updateSlot(bool)(code) ControlInset ::updateSlot(bool) (code) ControlInset ::update() (code) ControlInset ::params()(code) ControlInset ::update()(code) ControlDialog::hide() (code) ControlInset ::updateSlot(bool)(code) ControlInset ::updateSlot(bool) (code) ControlInset ::updateSlot(bool)(code) ControlInset ::apply()(code) ControlInset ::params() (code) ControlInset ::params() (code) ControlInset ::update()(code) ControlInset ::update() (code)

Re: Special math characters
> Are the other AMS stuff showing up ? For the file, mathed.lyx: Table 1: Math mode accents -> everything Table 2: -> epsilon and varrho don't work 3: -> 13 of these work 4: -> roughly half work 5: arrows -> roughly 1/4 work 6: -> roughly half work 7: var-sizes symbols -> 3 work 8: -> everything 9: -> 4 don't work 10: large delims -> all don't work 11: math constructs -> all work 12onwards: -> none work lasttable: -> \angle works (all the rest don't) > what is in xlsfonts ? I tried to get an output of xlsfonts to you but is was to big... I hope this can describe the problem... could you possibly run the following at the command prompt: ## This looks for all the fonts.dir files (that contain the expanded info and the filenames of all fontfiles in their respective directory) and display the font directories that contains your substitute font grep -l eufrak $(locate fonts.dir) Then type goto the directory that contains the respective font, and type : grep eufrak fonts.dir This will give you the line of the font and file that lyx would be using. Doing this for eufrak, eus, lcrm, lcry, lcrv may resolve where your font server is obtaining these respective fonts from... thanks, Pierre John Levon wrote: > On Fri, Jun 14, 2002 at 10:12:15AM +0930, Pierre Marc Dumuid wrote: > > >>eufr10.pfb >>eusr10.pfb >>plcrm.pfa >>plcry.pfa >>plcrv.pfa > > > I don't have these either, and \ast and \Subset work fine > > I installed loads of latex fonts whilst testing though, so I might have > similar ones or something.
