On the 'pro' side: It behaves exactly as LaTeX does, whence it is
easy to implement.

On the 'contra' side: It is somewhat annoying and people who don't

Then it should behave in a similar fashion for \(, \), \[,

we do add, it gives error.

As jed is sometimes described as an emacs clone, I expect something

OTOH, it would be nice, if LaTeX tolerated TABs in the *.bib file

You need to specify a width for the column, or
(if you need this only in one cell) to make the cell a multicolumn cell,
and then specify width to the cell.

 I'm having trouble getting lyx 1.2.1 working,

 I'm generally an rpm person as I get scared of building binaries,
 (having to find the libraries etc, and knowing how to configure stuff)

 I downloaded the rpm's for lyx 1.2.1, but it all seems different from
 the release of lyx 1.2.0.

 With the release of lyx 1.2.0, two options where given for RH users,
 those with RH7.2 and those with 7.3, and two files where supplied:

 lyx-1.2.0-1.i386.rpm
 lyx-1.2.0-1rh73-xforms089.i386.rpm.

 I upgraded to RH7.3, and hence installed
 lyx-1.2.0-1rh73-xforms089.i386.rpm.

 (I think I had to install xforms-0.89-1.i386.rpm with it)

  Yes, that is true.

 When trying to update to the 1.2.1 version of lyx, there is only one rpm
 on the ftp site:

   lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm

 and when I did sudo rpm -ih lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm, I got:

 error: failed dependencies:
  libforms.so.0.88 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1
  libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1

  Kayvan is using xforms 0.88.

 It seems as if the rpm was compiled using the old xforms (.88)
 I don't know why libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is there. I've got:

 libstdc++-2.96-112 and libstdc++-3.1-7

 which provide me with libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so.

 I've also tried to compile the srpm, but I didn't know where to get this
 file, (I found a .src.rpm, but not a .srpm, are they the same??) When I
 tried doing

  Yes, they are the same, at the time I write that I didn't have the name at
hand. Also sometimes the directories where those files are stored are called
SRPM, so the confusion.

 sudo rpm --rebuild lyx-1.2.1-1.src.rpm

 I got the following response:

 lyx-1.2.1-1.src.rpm: No such file or directory

  I don't use sudo, how about su -c rpm --rebuild lyx-1.2.1-1.src.rpm
  Notice that you should be in the directory where the file is or else give
the full path to it.

 Could someone help me out, (or could RPM's be released similar to
 lyx-1.2.0-1rh73-xforms089.i386.rpm).

  I f needed I can built such beast (I will eventually to distribute it for

You need to change the following lengths:

   \floatsep : Space left between floats
   \textfloatsep : Space between last top float or first bottom float
 and the text.
   \intextsep : Space left on top and bottom of an in-text float.

Default values are
\setlength{\floatsep}{12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}
\setlength{\textfloatsep}{20pt plus 2pt minus 4pt}
\setlength{\intextsep}   {12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}

Just change the first number (before the 'plus').

Using Docbook as XML with lyx 1.2.1

2002-08-22 Thread Alejandro Fernandez

Hi,

I have to write documentation using docbook for a software project to
which other developers will also contribute. My understanding of docbook
is not great, but I'd like to use lyx for this if it's recommendable. This
will be done using docbook xml files, which are sent through lots of
scripts until they reach a web frontend with pdf and html versions. In
future this process will be automated, and each project will have it's
/docs dir with said XML files.

So I need to be able to open these xml files in lyx, and save them as xml.
Is this possible? What scripts do I need to do this?

So far I have been able to find a URL with some info on this but I'm not
sure if this is out of date. Also I can save as docbook sgml, but not as
xml, and on this mailing list's archive I've found posts on how lyx can't
currently save as docbook xml but someone called bob has a script that
can do it... :)

http://bgu.chez.tiscali.fr/doc/db4lyx/xml-overview.html#id2705103

Thanks for any help. Please reply direct: I'm not subscribed.

lyx and emacs key binding

2002-08-22 Thread Wolfgang Kilian

Hello dear Lyxers,
 I've just compiled and installed Lyx 1.2.1 on my SuSE 8.0 System (after
making a link in /usr/X11R6/include/X11 like forms.h -
/usr/X11R6/include where the forms.h is
located).
 After successfully finding where to change the key binding (not in the
~/.lyx/lyxrc file like stated in the german help file and in the
lyxrc.example but in the ~/.lyx/preferences - or via the
'preferences...' menu) I changed that to emacs style. Unfortunately
still with that key bindings after typing C-x-f for opening a file it is
not possible to select the file like in emacs (comparable to the shell
behavior). But there is that 'nice' menu coming which is not capable to
extend sub directories and file names like the bash does. Is there a
possibility to come to the nice command line like one has in the emacs?

Thanks in advance
Wolfgang

On the 'pro' side: It behaves exactly as LaTeX does, whence it is

On the 'contra' side: It is somewhat annoying and people who don't

Then it should behave in a similar fashion for \(, \), \[,

There should be a possibility to tell emacs not to use TAB

 DESCRIPTION
   If `USE_TABS' is non-zero, the editor may use tab characters

As jed is sometimes described as an emacs clone, I expect something

OTOH, it would be nice, if LaTeX tolerated TABs in the *.bib file

You need to specify a width for the column, or
(if you need this only in one cell) to make the cell a multicolumn cell,
and then specify width to the cell.

 When trying to update to the 1.2.1 version of lyx, there is only one rpm
 on the ftp site:

   lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm

 and when I did sudo rpm -ih lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm, I got:

 error: failed dependencies:
  libforms.so.0.88 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1
  libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1

  Kayvan is using xforms 0.88.

 It seems as if the rpm was compiled using the old xforms (.88)
 I don't know why libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is there. I've got:

 libstdc++-2.96-112 and libstdc++-3.1-7

 which provide me with libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so.

 2.- Your answer to second question about space on figures is relative to

You need to change the following lengths:

   \floatsep : Space left between floats
   \textfloatsep : Space between last top float or first bottom float
 and the text.
   \intextsep : Space left on top and bottom of an in-text float.

Default values are
\setlength{\floatsep}{12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}
\setlength{\textfloatsep}{20pt plus 2pt minus 4pt}
\setlength{\intextsep}   {12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}

Wolfgang

Type \{ for a left, \} for a right curly brace.
Typing { gives you a nested block.

Thanks very much.

Just one query, will this feature be same in subsequent

I am not sure.

On the 'pro' side: It behaves exactly as LaTeX does, whence it is
easy to implement.

On the 'contra' side: It is somewhat annoying and people who don't
know LaTeX certainly do not appreciate it.

Then it should behave in a similar fashion for \(, \), \[,
\] but we don't require "\" before any of these, in fact if
we do add, it gives error.

There should be a possibility to tell emacs not to use TAB
characters at all. In my "jed" editor, it is the user-settable varible
USE_TABS

 DESCRIPTION
   If `USE_TABS' is non-zero, the editor may use tab characters
   when creating whitespace. If the value of this variable is zero, no
   tabs will be used.

As "jed" is sometimes described as an emacs clone, I expect something
similar in emacs.

OTOH, it would be nice, if LaTeX tolerated TABs in the *.bib file

You need to specify a width for the column, or
(if you need this only in one cell) to make the cell a multicolumn cell,
and then specify width to the cell.

  Yes, they are the same, at the time I write that I didn't have the name at
hand. Also sometimes the directories where those files are stored are called
SRPM, so the confusion.

  I don't use sudo, how about su -c rpm --rebuild lyx-1.2.1-1.src.rpm
  Notice that you should be in the directory where the file is or else give
the full path to it.

You need to change the following lengths:

   \floatsep : Space left between floats
   \textfloatsep : Space between last top float or first bottom float
 and the text.
   \intextsep : Space left on top and bottom of an in-text float.

Default values are
\setlength{\floatsep}{12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}
\setlength{\textfloatsep}{20pt plus 2pt minus 4pt}
\setlength{\intextsep}   {12pt plus 2pt minus 2pt}

Just change the first number (before the 'plus').

caption and floats

2002-08-22 Thread David Jacovkis Halperin

Hi all. I recently upgraded to v. 1.2.0, and I have a problem with captions
and floats: when I insert any float the paragraph environment defaults to
"Standard" instead of "Caption", so every time I have to change it manually.
Any suggestion?
Thanks a lot,

Also I can save as docbook sgml, but not as
xml, and on this mailing list's archive I've found posts on how lyx can't
currently save as docbook xml but someone called "bob" has a script that
can do it... :)

http://bgu.chez.tiscali.fr/doc/db4lyx/xml-overview.html#id2705103

Thanks for any help. Please reply direct: I'm not subscribed.

lyx and emacs key binding

2002-08-22 Thread Wolfgang Kilian

Hello dear Lyxers,
 I've just compiled and installed Lyx 1.2.1 on my SuSE 8.0 System (after
making a link in /usr/X11R6/include/X11 like forms.h ->

Wolfgang

Here's the lyx file (I've got a file with just this figure for testing

\end{figure}

Below is the latex code...

%% LyX 1.2 created this file. For more info, see http://www.lyx.org/.

\documentclass[11pt,american]{article}
\usepackage{ae}

\geometry{verbose,letterpaper,lmargin=1.25in,rmargin=1.25in}

\makeatletter

%% LyX specific LaTeX commands.
\providecommand{\LyX}{L\kern-.1667em\lower.25em\hbox{Y}\kern-.125emX\@}

\usepackage{pstricks}
\usepackage{babel}
\makeatother
\begin{document}
\begin{figure}

\centering

\input{walkthru_fig2.tex}

\end{document}

I can send the tex file created by dia if that would be helpful. The funny
thing is that the older version of the figure works fine but the one with
the modifications doesn't...
