Re: lyc-code and latex2html

2002-11-25 Thread Manfred Wischin
Thanks a lot! You saved my day er.. night!!!

Changing individual words to typewriter does not work, but applying it to
whole paragraphs is running perfectly!

I tried to incoperate this in layouts/lyxmacros.inc for Lyx-code but on one
hand I cannot set a font for a whole environment and if a change it to a
command i have the spaces again because then each paragraph is individually
assigned to \lyxcode. Its a pitty. Maybe the Lyx Tex Output for Lyx-Code is
ok and latex2html is faulty.

Anyway I can happily live with your suggested solution.
thanks
Manfred

lyc-code and latex2html

2002-11-25 Thread Manfred Wischin
Hi!

How do I make latex2html output lyx-code sections correctly (single
linespace and typewriter font)?

I spent the last nine hours searching the web, the mailingslist archives,
google groups, etc, and tried anything i could think of, but no avail!
Maybe i missed something because it seems to me that this problem should be
common to everybody writing some technical documentation with lyx.

Has anybody got this working?

Thanks in advance
Manfred

Thanks Christian for putting up those files... what I'm trying to do is
to have my three documents double up as articles and as chapters in a
book.. so that if I decided to print them out separately, they would
look like articles and if I decided to print out the whole thing
together then it would look like a book.. in more practical terms, the
article-class documents are papers that can be published and when these
papers are put together, they form a thesis..

So the only difference between the above and what you have in your files
is that in the latter, if I try to print out each document separately, I
will get "Chapter 1" and sections 1.x on each article-class document..
what I'd like to see is each one as a stand alone article... I guess one
way is to change the book class for each document to article class
before printing or so.. any other way(s)?

Thanks,

Hi all,

Hope someone can give me a hint about the following:

I use amsbook style, and have a fancyheader with some graphics in the preamble.
Looks allright, but on every first page of a chapter, ir defines:

\thispagestyle{plain}

in amsbook.cls, but I also want my fancyheader on the first pages of the chapter.

How can I do that without editing amsbook.cls (I tried, but it mixed up everything).

Cheers,
Jeroen.

Thank you!

Yes, but those should be paragraph level elements to have a more wysiwym
look. The support for characther level style is high on our todo list.

If you add any other styles you can send them to me and they will ship with
next versions of lyx.

Figure numbering problem

2002-11-25 Thread Stephen G. Buonopane
I am trying to number my Figures continuously through an article-type
document which has several numbered sections. The Figure captions are
numbered correctly 1,2,3... But if I reference the figures in the text I get
numbers like 1.1,2.1,2.2 etc. where the first number is the section and the
second is the sequence of the figure within the section.
Any ideas how to fix this?

On a related note...
Is there an easy way to get figure captions to be flush left? I saw the code
on Herbert Voss's page. Anything else? Does caption2.sty or ccaption.sty
include such options?

Thanks,
Steve

lost path

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni
What I really HATE are those errors coming and going without reason
(it happens with my car engine too, sometimes...)
I don't understand TeX, doesnt want to, and thats why I use LyX.
I had to curse the heavens to install the bloody Revtex4 package, God knows
how but I made it.
I wrote a whole article with it. Now, 2 days after - not having done anything
I swear to my TeX install - I got some 10 errors when viewing it postscript.

Then I notice the dreaded:
... Package graphics Error: No driver specified ...

saying that I need a graphics.cfg file.
Yet a file /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/config/graphics.cfg exists! Well, I try
creating a graphics.cfg file in my doc directory, with \ExecuteOptions{dvips}
inside

Then again I get an error saying that dvips.def cannot be found - yet it is in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/graphics/dvips.def .
I copy it in the doc directory,

and finally

it works

Now:
what exactly happened?
I swear I didnt change anything, why I had to do all this kinda steps???

I got the impression that somehow TeX/Latex/LyX didnt know exactly the paths
anymore, but that's just an impression ...

any idea? I'd hate to follow again all those steps...

thanks

Could you search through the configure script for 'grep' and add lines
echoing the command in order to figure out which lines fail?

Although 70 of them somehow sounds like "every grep fails"

Does stuff like echo "$VERSION" | grep 'cvs' >/dev/null work under
Windows? (Cygwin that is, I suppose?)

Subject: LyX doesn't even start

Hi!

Claus Hentschel recommended to write to this mailing list, because he
doesn't know what is wrong.

The problem is I can't start the LyX port for Windows. I'm using XP
(MikTeX, X-Win32), and when I try to start LyX, I get the following
error
message:

LyX: Creating directory /cygdrive/d/home/.lyx/ and running configure...
grep: writing output: Bad file descriptor
grep: writing output: Bad file descriptor
[... same grep-Message 70times repeated]
grep: writing output: Bad file descriptor
grep: write error: Bad file descriptor
LyX: Done!
XIO: fatal IO error 113 (Connection aborted) on X server
"192.168.0.1:0.0"
after 73 requests (70 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

If I start LyX again, then I only get the following error message

XIO: fatal IO error 113 (Connection aborted) on X server
"192.168.0.1:0.0"
after 373 requests (370 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

The connection to the X-server is ok, because if I start with no present

home-directory, I get a window within the X-server saying that the user
directory cannot be created.

I tried everything, I started Windows in "secure modus"; I copied the
files
from a working Win' 98 Lyx (which has the same file structure) to XP
(same
error), I installed LyX, MikTeX and Cygwin several times, I installed it
to
Win XP of my neighbour (it works there without a problem).

Now I don't have any idea, what I can try to get it working :-(

What does the error code 113 mean?

Attached is the output of cygcheck. Maybe there's something wrong with
environment variables,

but before lyx starts, it sets the following variables in lyxprofile:

export HOME="/cygdrive/d/Home"

Obvious maybe, but do you have d drive? It appears all your other paths
are c:\...

I use export HOME="/cygdrive/c/cygwin/home/blah"

export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0;
export PATH="/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:$PATH"
export USER="`id -un`"
export MAKE_MODE=unix
export OSTYPE=cygwin
unset DOSDRIVE
unset DOSDIR
unset TMPDIR
unset TMP

Thanks in advance for your help!

This seems to be a known bug in ghostscript. I think it is fixed in CVS, but
not in any official release. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
BTW, the problem does not occur only on Windows, it does occur with acroread
versions 5.0 and above (and I have 4.x on my linux box). It seems that
acroread 5.x is much more strict on pdf specs...
