 Have you tried to install the package manually? Just invoke the package setup
and try to install it for a single user (LyX as well; if you have installed
it for all users, just install the single user version over the old one, and
only the LyX component, of course). After installing the English dictionary
check if it is installed in the directory

Documents Settings\ \Application Data.

It should be.

Before reinstalling, remove every former Aspell installation.
Hope that helps.

BTW ftp.lyx.org is dead this morning. Hopefully you still have the dictionary.
I must admit that using LyX under Linux or Unix is *much* more fun than on
Windows, although the LyX-package is very good.

Aspell english dictionary install

2007-08-23 Thread Roberto Gorjão

Hi all,

I'm new at this list (and as a LyX user, by the way), so please bear
with me.

I understand that this problem has already been discussed at this list.
Nevertheless, I was not able to understand how to solve it by reading
the previous messages.

So, during my install of LyX (onto Win XP SP2), the english dictionary
could not be downloaded and was not installed. When I try to run the
spellchecker (Aspell), if the document is in english, I get an error
message saying that no en_us dictionary could be found. Other
dictionaries were installed and, if documents are set for the
corresponding languages, the spellchecker is able to run.

I read on the list that I should download the dictionary files of
Aspell6 form th LyX wiki page ( http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6 ),
but the english dictionary link seems to link to no file...

What should I do?

Thank you!

Roberto

Using \include in ERT : How do I specify a path?

2007-08-23 Thread John Kane
I have a table in plain LaTex that I would like to
inclulde in a LyX document.
Using ERT
 \include{filename}

works fine when I have the file in the same folder.

I don't seem to see how to specify something like
C:\food\table1.tex in either LaTeX or LyX. It must be
obvious but I just don't see it.

I think it's a relatively easy mistake to do...

How about adding some descriptions to this text? It wouldn't have to be a
lot, in fact... maybe it could just refer to a web (wiki?) page where the

You can probably achieve something by using the TeX widow and orphan
penalties in the preamble:

\widowpenalty=
\clubpenalty=

may have the desired effect.

I could believe that LyX _building_ depends on moc.

Even qt4-devel when he want to build the thing himself.

Don't do this! The first two DOS-Windows are opened by MiKTeX - the LaTeX-distribution that is

When the installer shows you the message that "The following configuration of LyX will take a while"
then a Console window pops up showing you the effort of the configuration. When you have an open
internet connection, missing LaTeX-packages needed by LyX will be downloaded and installed what can
take some Minutes, depending on your Internet connection speed. The console window shows you what
LaTeX-package is currently installed to inform you about the progress.

To get a clean installation, uninstall LyX completely will all progtrams that the unistaller offers
to uninstall. Reinstall LyX afterwards (with an open internet connection if possible).
When you had already MiKTeX installed before you installed LyX and it was version MiKTeX 2.4.,
uninstall also MiKTeX before you reinstall LyX.

When you still have problems, report me at which position in the console window the installation
fails or stops (screenshot of the console window would be fine).

Lyx problems in importing txt2tags .tex files

2007-08-23 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hello,

I'm using txt2tags 2.3 for windows, and LyX 1.5 on a WinXP

txt2tags (http://txt2tags.sourceforge.net/) is a python script that
can output .tex files. I would like to produce files with the txt2tags
markup and further refine them on LyX.

However I have a problem importing the .tex files produced by txt2tags
into LyX. The title and author field are missing in the .lyx file,
replaced by a "clear page" mention. The final .dvi lacks those fields
entirely.

Here follows a txt2tags xp1.tex file:

##
\documentclass[11pt,a4paper]{article}
\usepackage{amsfonts,graphicx}
\usepackage[pdfstartview=FitH,urlcolor=blue,colorlinks=true,bookmarks=true]{hyperref}
\pagestyle{plain} % do page numbering ('empty' turns off)
\frenchspacing % no aditional spaces after periods
\setlength{\parskip}{8pt}\parindent=0pt  % no paragraph indentation

\title{This is a title}
\author{I'm the author}
\begin{document}
\maketitle
\clearpage

This is standard text

\section*{this is a section*}
This is more text

% LaTeX2e code generated by txt2tags 2.3 (http://txt2tags.sf.net)
% cmdline: txt2tags -t tex G:/MPI/xp1.t2t
\end{document}
##

And here is the corresponding xp1.lyx file:

##
#LyX file created by  tex2lyx 0.1.2
\lyxformat 245
\begin_document
\begin_header
\textclass article

##

Now, if I insert a date in the txt2tags file, the resulting LyX file
still does not display title and author, but shows the date followed
by the "clear page" mention. But the .dvi document shows indeed the
title, author and date, in a preceding page. Here are the files:

Help for a new user

2007-08-23 Thread Dave Hewitt

Hello,

I have a simple question. I am a newbie to LaTeX and LyX, but I am eager to
learn. I downloaded the latest LyxWinInstaller (complete) and attempted to
install on a WinXP machine (fairly new, plenty or memory and speed, etc.).
At a couple points in the installation a DOS window popped up, did
something that seemed to take only a short time, but then stayed there and
wouldn't close. The installer was halted during this time. For each window
I just waited a while and then closed it. The installer continued and all
seemed fine. However, virtually nothing in LyX would work when it was all
said and done. Can someone provide guidance about those pop-up DOS windows
and what I should do? Everything else went very smoothly and seemed OK, so
I assume the problem was there.

Thanks,
Dave Hewitt

Yes. I use the w32tex install in addition to MikTeX and it works fine
(MikTeX was installed first, so comes before w32tex in the path
statements, so MikTeX gets used in preference to w32tex, but xetex
gets used from w32tex 'cause it's not present in MikTeX).

There're also instructions on ``How to use XeTeX for W32 on Web2C-
based TeX distribution other than W32TeX'' --- I think those would
work w/ MikTeX, but haven't investigated, since I already had w32tex
set up.
