If you have opened the child document from the master document (or after
 you
have once processed the master), you can compile the master from the child
 with the command master-buffer-update pdf2 (for pdflatex, as an example;
there's also master-buffer-view and you can substitute pdf2 by any output
format). You can either input this command in the minibuffer, or you can
create your own toolbar or menu item or shortcuts for this. In fact, you
 can
even replace the standard commands buffer-view and buffer-update with
these, since if no master is found, the document itself gets compiled.

In 1.6, things will get a bit easier. There you can allocate a master
 buffer
to a child in the document dialog, so the first step is not needed
 anymore.

modify unsw layout to change alignment

2008-07-12 Thread Abe Lau
Hi,
Mark has provided a handy UNSW thesis layout based on the amsbook for lyx (
http://www.threewordslong.com/blog/entry/63/A_LyX_Thesis_Layout_for_UNSW_T)
and I found it pretty nice in general for what I need, saving a lot of
hassle of creating all the required pages from scratch.

However, I would like to make a few changes and not very sure how I can do
that without messing with the lengthy amsbook style.
1. Bigger fonts for all the chapter/section/subsection
2. Change the Chapter/Section to be Left aligned
3. A new line for subsubsection

I have tried to change the class to book/memoir style and it looks obvious
that the layout doesn't work because some of the preambles depend on amsbook
stuff (my guess). Any idea would be much appreciated.

modify unsw layout to change alignment

2008-07-12 Thread Abe Lau
Hi,
Mark has provided a handy UNSW thesis layout based on the amsbook for lyx (
http://www.threewordslong.com/blog/entry/63/A_LyX_Thesis_Layout_for_UNSW_T)
and I found it pretty nice in general for what I need, saving a lot of
hassle of creating all the required pages from scratch.

However, I would like to make a few changes and not very sure how I can do
that without messing with the lengthy amsbook style.
1. Bigger fonts for all the chapter/section/subsection
2. Change the Chapter/Section to be Left aligned
3. A new line for subsubsection

I have tried to change the class to book/memoir style and it looks obvious
that the layout doesn't work because some of the preambles depend on amsbook
stuff (my guess). Any idea would be much appreciated.

Re: New documentclass (NCC) in LyX (LyX 1.6) — how to?

2008-07-12 Thread Jürgen Spitzmüller
You need (at least) the following changes and additions:

# \DeclareLaTeXClass[ncc,ncclatex.sty]{book (NCC-LaTeX)}

Format 7

ClassOptions
  Other book
End

Input book.layout

Make sure ncc is found by kpsewhich (i.e. run "texhash" or update the MikTeX
database, for that matter) and, after the layout is set up, run
Edit->Reconfigure from within LyX.

pdfscreen

2008-07-12 Thread Sandor Szabo

There is a LyX version, in principle.
Unfortunately the link
http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~dekelts/lyx/pdfscreen.tar.gz
given in this page
http://me.in-berlin.de/~miwie/presentations/html/pdfscreen.html
is outdated

I'm a simple user, so don't know how it could be implemented
after finding it somewhere (where?) on the net.

Thanks, Sandor

"Could not remove temporary directory..."

2008-07-12 Thread bigblop

When I close LyX (1.5.5 for winXP) I always get the message:

"Could not remove temporary directory C:/Documents and Settings/bob..."

twice. I just click ok each time and they disappear, but is there someway to
fix this?

problem of lyx in sidux

2008-07-12 Thread Jan Brosius
Hello,

I use the sidux OS (=debian sid) and I use the latest debian lyx package
(1.5.5-1) and lyx version 1.5.5). When I start lyx I get the gui of lyx. When I
do
Help --> Tutorial, I get the tutorial in lyx. But when converting this lyx file
to pdf I get a pop-up error:
"Lyx:Cannot convert file
No information for converting xpm format files to png.
Define a converter in the preferences."

And the lyx app freezes.

How can I remedy this problem?
Jan
