RE: collecting items
If it's lyx or latex documents you can just copy and paste. Lyx will work as is. Latex math you need to either paste into an existing math block or paste as normal text, then select the math parts and press Ctrl-M to create a math block of the text. If it's openoffice it may be possible to export to latex first and then possibly import it into lyx (don't know how well the math export works). If it's word or pdf you are probably stuck with rewriting the equations -Original Message- From: news [mailto:n...@ger.gmane.org] On Behalf Of pol Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 21:31 To: lyx-users@lists.lyx.org Subject: collecting items Often i have to pick up math questions from several previously made documents to build up a new one (homework, test, other deliverables). E. Kaplan schrieb: Please ignore my previous message regarding wrapfigure. It works, although the results differ from what I get with Latex. That should not be the case. LyX supports wrapfigures natively, see sec. 3.2.2 "Wrap Floats" of the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find in the Help menu of LyX. What cases do you have where plain LaTeX gives you a different output than LyX does? regards Uwe
Re: Parbox footnote disappears. LyX example attached
Paul Johnson schrieb: I find myself wondering why LyX allows one to insert of a footnote in a parbox, if that is forbidden by LaTeX. Because it is not forbidden ;-) You can do this, the footnote will only not be shown. But there might be LaTeX packages that changes the code so this it will be shown specially in the output. As long as LaTeX don't give an error or warning LyX must therefore allow such things. Do you think that the various LyX manuals can ever be "linked together" or connected somehow with a unified table of contents? Not as a single LyX/PDF file, because this would be unmaintainable. But I plan to provide a HTML file build out of the manuals. A LyX user is currently developing a new LyX2HTML converter which seems to be able to do this. Currently there are 4 basic manuals: - The UserGuide that at least gives an overview about ALL features and that often links to the specific manuals. -The EmbeddedObjects manual that explains Tables, floats, graphics, boxes, external material, and program listings in detail - The Math manual - The Customization manual The last two are self explanatory. The Intro manual now also lists them and explains shortly what they are about. (I just updated this section for the next release.) regards Uwe

wrapfigure
Is there a way to use the wrapfigure environment in Lyx? When I import a Latex file with wrapfigure in it, 1.6.1 gags on it. Thanks-- EK

It is possible as Juergen wrote, but I question the approach you use to check whether some piece of software suits your purposes. Capital ß is as much part of Real Life as is World Peace. > Why does with Latex everything have to be so complicated? :/ Partially because TeX is a horrible language, and partially because it tends to lead to pagmatic solution (as opposed to "Ivory Tower style" solutions) ;-} Andre'

With LaTeX, the following works: \usepackage{libertine} GRO\MakeUppercase{ß}E SACHE \textsc{Große Sache} In other words, the LaTeX package automatically uses the capital <ß> unless you load the package with the option "ss". I don't know yet whether I am gonna need it or not, but I'd like to know if it's possible before I start getting into Lyx seriously. Why does with Latex everything have to be so complicated? :/ Would it work if I got Xetex working with Lyx and use the xelibertine package? I found this article but I don't know if it will work for me since I am on WinXP. http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/XeTeX And if I got it to work would it still be possible to use the Lilypond converters? These are actually the main reason why I started using Lyx, because it's so easy to implement music snippets into a text document. Robin already responded, and promised to put a new version on CTAN this weekend: http://groups.google.de/group/comp.text.tex/browse_thread/thread/b294c3790bd49a92 It seems that adding \RequirePackage{color} is a workaround for the time being (I haven't checked that).
