Try deleting the sessions file from ~/.lyx. That may be the issue. You

I chowned the whole of .lyx already, because I had this idea too,

Any other file which could have a permission problem?

If the window size isn't being controlled by LyX, then I'd think it had
to be controlled by your wm. So I'd look there.

I'll try to get some help from KDE people.

Thanks nevertheless

Hi Perry,

I know of no hands-on training you can get in NYC area, and several have
recommended the tutorial, which is good.

LyX has two levels:

1) Working with the styles contained in your document class
2) Making your own styles

#1 is so easy that a cocker spaniel can do it after smoking ten joints. Spend
a day with the tutorial and you'll be doing #1 like you've used LyX since your
third birthday.

#2 is astonishingly difficult, an order of magnitude more difficult than making
your own styles in MS Word or WordPerfect or even OpenOffice. I've written a
lot
about #2 at http://www.troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/index.htm.

I'd suggest as you find yourself needing a new environment or character style,
create it simply in your layout file using copystyle as much as possible, so
that you can at least mark up everything with the correct styles. Later you
can tweak the styles in order to make them look how you want.

Lyx IEEETrans.cls, Biographies, Affiliations

2009-10-02 Thread Nathan
Hi Lyxites,

I have recently switched to Lyx. I have posted on a number of forums and I am
having no luck getting any feedback from anyone anywhere. I am not sure if my
posts come up blank or what...

Anyway. I am using a Windows computer running XP. I am writing a paper in Lyx
for IEEE MTT and I need to do the following:

1) Add Affiliations:

in LaTeX on my mac I just write \affiliation{stuff}

2) Add Biographies:

It is not clear how to do this at all. I can make the section, but then what?

Nate

Yep, it's like that. Starting with LyX was for me (a year go) a lot of
fun :-). And the doc's are really very helpful.

Good luck, Nikos

You need to redefine the macros: \thesection, \thesubsection, and
\thesubsubsection, e.g.:

\newcommand\mysection{\arabic{section}}
\renewcommand\thesection{\mysection)}
\newcommand\mysubsection{\mysection.\arabic{subsection}}
\renewcommand\thesubsection{\mysubsection)}
Etc. The complications here are due to the fact that you want the ")"
always at the end.

We're working on the crash problem, but no real solution yet. (Yours
is the right workaround for now.)

There have been no changes in key bindings on our end. Perhaps your
preferences have changed. To get Mac standard bindings, you should
have mac.bind listed in LyX > Preferences > Editing > Shortcuts > Bind
file.

Keybinding for Save.

I just upgraded to Lyx 1.6.4.1 and to Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.1 and am
having the pseudo-crashes mentioned in other user messages. One
solution I have read is to save often. For some reason Lyx 1.6.4.1
uses F2 for the Save keybinding! I use my own key bindings but I
am unable to alter this to the usual Command-s by changing the
keybinding file with the entry \bind "C-s" "save" . What is going
on and how do I switch back to command s. Why the switch to F2??

I just upgraded to Lyx 1.6.4.1 and to Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.1 and am
having the pseudo-crashes mentioned in other user messages. One
solution I have read is to save often but F2 is just not as automatic
as command -s.

All the references are done correctly ie label, then cross link.

What reference type have you chosen in the dialog?
