Howto disable use of temporary directory?

2010-02-18 Thread Andreas Steffens

Hi,

i'm using LyX with MikTex on Windows and am having problems embedding images
using \includegraphics after specifying a search path using \graphicspath.
Even setting absolute path doesn't work. Found a couple of posts on the net
that hinted turning off temporary directory and generating temporary files
in the document directory while only using relative paths with \graphicspath
would help. Unfortunately i can't find a setting in LyX that allows to turn
off temporary directory. Already tried nulling tempdir which didn't work.

Anyone had the same issues and knows a solution or workaround?

Thx,
Andreas

Problems after moving figures

2010-02-18 Thread Ehud Kaplan
After I cut and paste a figure, Lyx 1.6.5.1 (Kubuntu-64) freezes, and I
have to terminate it before I can continue.
It does something to the other parts of system, since I could not write
this note to the list on Thunderbird-- it was frozen. It also informs
me of having to change the label of the figure, since the label that is
attached to the figure already exists. I would have thought that using
CUT will be communicated to the cross-reference list, to prevent this
re-labeling.

Is it only me or have others seen this behavior?
Thanks,
EK

Sounds likely. Now all I gotta do is find my notes on custom headers...

Not today though. My brain is kaput...

Thanks!

This behavior seems to have changed (currently using LyX 1.6.4 on Kubuntu 9.10).
Using Ctrl+PgDown only switches opened (as in "visible") tabs. Is there a way to
have LyX show/open all referenced child documents upon loading the master? Using
the View-menu to open them all individually is very cumbersome and I have more

I think you'd need to file an enhancement request for this.

I believe that the unique form to avoid the bug is to redefine the header of
the page by means of an ERT after the TOC.

 Yes, is a bug.
It would be necessary to inform it, but I do not know where that becomes.
I put the TOC at the end of the book and I do not have that problem ;-)
When I put it at the beginning of the book, I solved it using titlesec and
redefining header.

Hi Wolfgang,

there exists a german tutorial in the "help" section. Unfortunatly there
doesnt exist a lys book on the market, but a lot of good tutorials
google-able, in german, too.

Maybe at university there it could be a good idea printing the german
tutorial at university printers? ;-)

In my experience for big writings like diploma thesis it is the better
way directly writing in latex (i.e. komascript).

Hi Wolfgang,
I'm y LyX user for ca. 10 years now and use it for NEARLY ALL of my text
processing needs.

Two recommandations:

*** Rephrase your question in englsih and you will get lots of answers
of people who produce books using LyX.
If you search the this list in the archives, e.g. gmane (I don't know
exactly how to do that, but I know that is works) you will find many
contributions from people who do 'heavy' writing of big texts (theses,
books etc.)

*** Before you give some advice to your students, take the time to
experiment a bit yourself with LyX.

Then you will realize quickly

>> how simple it is to work with structured documents
I use them all the time, even shorter ones can be structured in a very
helpful way

>> how easy you can produce personally or group-wise pre-configured
documents

Only if you want to produce perfect documents with Logos and your own
page layout etx. you have to use LaTeX.

If you are situated somewhere between Munich and Zurich maybe we could
arrange a personal meeting such that I can show you some of my experiences.

Best regards

Hellmut
