Re: Windows users: can you test the 2.3.0 installer?

2018-02-27 Thread Emile Lunardon
I had a big problem with the use of the new LyX 2.3 bundle.

The installation by itself went fine, side by side with the current LyX
2.2.3 version, using my existing local Miktex 2.9 distribution. But the
compilation with LyX 2.3 of any document failed with a report of a problem
on pdflatex.exe (something like missing program). I tried to reconfigure
LyX 2.3 but the problem remained.
I then switched to LyX 2.2.3 and faced the same problem with in addition
the reported missing of some document classes. It seemed that the Miktex
configuration was corrupted.

I then uninstalled LyX 2.3 and had to upgrade/maintain the Miktex
configuration with its package manager to recover a working LyX 2.2.3.

So there is certainly a problem with the way LyX 2.3 interacts with Miktex.
I had no problem of this kind with the LyX2.3RC 1 & 2.

If you go to that line, and then go to Edit > Language, French should
appear with a check mark. I think the reason why the Spanish error comes
up is from the line just below it, which is in Spanish.

I had no problems with the installation (windows 7, installer rather
than bundle). I always install offline to avoid possible hassles with

2.3.0 installer test on Windows 10

2018-02-27 Thread Eric Barkan
Sorry, Scott. I first sent this to your own email by mistake. Re-sending
to the list.

I've installed and run the latest 2.3.0 installer from the FTP site on
Windows 10.

I've done 2 installations, both against TexLive 2017:

  1. Windows 10 running natively on a new Dell laptop with Kaby Lake Xeon.

  2. Windows 10 under Virtual box on a Fedora 27 host.

No problems or errors at all, either during installation, lyx program
startup, or compiling the User Guide.  The generated User Guide PDF
looks OK as far as I can tell.

Separately, FYI:

I have also built and tested the 2.3.0 tarball under Fedora 27/Texlive
with QT 5.9.4.  It builds and runs without error on my own documents.
However, when compiling the User Guide, it throws two errors:

1. "Illegal parameter number in definition of \captionsspanish" with the
Description:

}

You meant to type ## instead of #, right?

Or maybe a } was forgotten somewhere earlier, and things

are all screwed up? I'm going to assume that you meant ##.

and:

2. "Package babel Error: You haven't defined the language spanish yet."
with the Description:

\selectlanguage{spanish}

%

Your command will be ignored, type to proceed

These errors appear to be triggered in Section 3.9.2 on the line: "Les
incises - même si tout le monde ne les aime pas – sont très utiles."

Yes, that's French, not Spanish.

After clicking "Show Output Anyway" the PDF compiles without further
error and the affected lines in Section 3.9.2 appear normal.

Am I missing some package from Texlive?

Hope this helps. In any case, thanks to you all for your hard work on
this release!

I do not think there is a LyX layout for that document class (yet).
There are layouts for two other Springer book classes, but I can't find one for
sr-
vorl. So you will need to create one. If either of the Springer book classes for
which layouts exist (svmono, svmult) is similar to sr-vorl, it might be easiest
to
copy that layout someplace and edit it to match sr-vorl. Chapter 5 of the
Customization help file describes the layout files.

Good luck,

Andreas,

If this is the only time you are likely to be using the sr-vorl class,
hacking a layout file for it might not be worth the time. Since the LyX
layout file is needed only to translate between the LaTeX class and what
appears in the LyX GUI, you might consider the following alternative
strategy. Write the document in either svmono or svmult, whichever is
closer to sr-vorl, using the exiting LyX layout. When all the content
editing is done, export the document to LaTeX, and then change the
document class to sr-vorl in the LaTeX file. You may possibly encounter
a few LaTeX errors that will need fixing, but I suspect it will be less
work than hacking a one-time-use layout file.

document class Springer book isn´t available in lyx

2018-02-27 Thread ah
Hi lyx users,

my first problem in transforming my thesis (Komascript document class
"scrartcl") into a springer book is:
I updated Miktex 2.9 with the springer book document class "sr-vorl"
synchronized it and reconfigurated "lyx 2.2.3"
But I don´t find the document class in documents - settings of lyx.
What can be the problem?

Best

in the near future I´ll have to transform my thesis-format into a format for
a book publication at Springer-Verlag. I got some latex-submittals
srl-vorl.dtx and srl-vorl.ins from Springer and still don´t know how to
insert in lyx. First I´ll try for myself, but I would be pleased to get some
help later.
