layout file format versions

2007-10-25 Thread ian holliday
Hi All,

I am trying for the first time to setup a layout file, and have got some way
forwards, however I am uncertain of the importance of the 'format' command in
the layout file. The customization manual indicates that it refers to version 2
however the book.layout I'm basing my layout on uses version 4 and try as I
might I can't locate any information about this version. Can some one point me
in the right direction? Or better still tell me it doesn't matter much and I can
stop worrying about it.

Thanks

Ian

Thanks Andre' - I'll just assume the format won't be significantly
different then.

If your LyX use format 4, then I recommend that you
use format 4 yourself too. Helge Hafting

I think you are right Helge - I'll use version 4. Eventually someone will update
the documentation and all will be clear.

Boxes in books

2010-05-17 Thread Ian Holliday
Hi All,

I'm involved in writing an academic textbook and we are wanting to use
'Boxes' to highlight aspects of topics. We are inserting a box then
formating it from the context menu, but we have not found an elegant way to
reference the boxes. The documentation says boxes are unnumbered, so what we
are doing is placing a label at the start of the box text, and hoping that
will provide sufficient functionality. Ideally we would like to be able to
build a table of Boxes and insert cross references to boxes in the text.

Has anyone else devised a nice solution to this? Also are boxes
automatically 'float' items, or should we be placing them in floats as well?

We are currently using the Cambridge University Press latex style
cupbook.sty but this is not essential to the project.
