For me LyX+maxima perfectly works and also computes 123*456 giving 56088.
Furthermore, it correctly computes integrals, derivatives, and
derivatives of integrals.
Only problem: it not able to solve equations.

Hello Robert,
it happens because you have the float in a description list (with the
command item).
If you go before the gray cell with the word mobile and you set the
paragraph as standard the problem should disappear.

I am using LyX 1.5 (beta3) on Windows XP.
When compiling the DVI of a paper with some integrals, I received an error
because of the lack of the esint.sty.
Then, I have installed the package but in the DVI the integral is
substituted by a capital delta (\Delta).
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Hello,
I found this link
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg01043.html where one can
download the instruction about making Maxima work under LyX.
I have tried to apply the commands Edit-Mathematics-Use Computer
Algebra System-Maxima but it does not work.
If I write 2+2 and I
, it's most likely c:\program files\maxima\bin
Reconfigure and restart LyX. It'll work.
Good luck.
