All my LyX files seem to be externally modified

2007-10-31 Thread Albert Pettersson
Dear Sirs,

A while ago LyX (1.5.2) started to say that all my old files have been
externally modified. The problem does not occur when I create new
files, but every time I want to save a change in an old file, I have
to click the overwrite button. As far as I know, I have not modified
any LyX files externally, so I do not understand why I get the
message. Since it is very irritating to have it this way I wonder if
there is a way to turn this confirming question off.

Yours sincerely,
Albert Pettersson

Re: Some things I wonder how to do

2006-04-26 Thread Albert Pettersson
Hi!

1. How can I put some text in the upper right corner of the first
 page
(documentclass article)?

Insert a margin note along your title and inside the margin note put a
ERT box with \vspace{-2cm} and write the text you want in the upper
right corner in the margin note. (You might try different lengths to
get the correct height of the text). If your text is wider than the
margin it will wrap and you will nead to use \fancyhdr instead...

What is an ERT box? I have searched for ERT in the user's guide, but
I didn't find anything. I think, however, that a margin note would be
too small. I suppose I'll have to learn how fancyhdr works.

Insert-Special formatting-Horizonal fill

Well, then the text gets right allignment. I don't want that.

2. Normally, the first line of a paragraph should be indented and
 not
the rest, but sometimes I want it to be on the contrary, with
 every line
except the first one indented. Is that possible?

The easiest way is the increase the margin width and put a negative
indentation in the document setup dialog. (-5 mm)

I only want a small part of the document to be like that. If I do
this, the whole document will change, won't it?

 3. How can I start a new paragraph without starting a new
number in a numbered list? I mean that I want to have more
than one paragaph to a number.

Create your new paragraph as Standard (or something else as itemize
for a nested enumeration) and use EditIncrease List Depth.

That doesn't seem to work. I don't want a space between the
paragraphs, but I want the first line of the new one to be indented,
which it isn't with ctrl+enter.

 4. When I have a figure, I can put the
text (example: Figure 1: A nice picture) above and beside
the figure, but is it possible to put the text below the
 figure?

Pressing enter before inserting the figure helped. Thanks!

Oh, then I understand, but the margin note was too small. I could,

Yes, it will. If you only want some text done this way you may use a
  minipage
  and some ERT :).

start by putting \hfill in an ERT box. Then just behind the ERT box insert a
minipage. Right click on the closed minipage and set the size to 90 %col.
  Add
the text you want formatted to the minipage. Bofore the first word inside

Then what do you want? Inserting a horizontal fill pushes the text to
the right margin, i.e. if you use it in the first line of a page, the
text should appear in the upper right corner of the first page (as you

Wonderful! Now it worked.

Number 1 and number 3 are left to solve. I tried to put the things
here inside a margin note to the title too, but I got lots of errors.

hm, I didn't get any errors. I do seem to have an older version than
you... Try to load the minimal lyx file I send and see if it gives the
 same error.

It works with your file. The difference seems to be that I had started
a new paragraph. Isn't it possible to do that?

 Insert-Special formatting-Horizonal fill

Well, then the text gets right allignment. I don't want that.

Then what do you want? Inserting a horizontal fill pushes the text to
the right margin, i.e. if you use it in the first line of a page, the
text should appear in the upper right corner of the first page (as you
described).

Well, have a look at http://dump.sweclockers.com/gapa/lyxlines.png. I
want the text to be like the lines, with the first line beginning at
the same place and the other lines being indented.

What is an ERT box? I have searched for "ERT" in the user's guide, but
I didn't find anything. I think, however, that a margin note would be
too small. I suppose I'll have to learn how fancyhdr works.

I only want a small part of the document to be like that. If I do
this, the whole document will change, won't it?

That doesn't seem to work. I don't want a space between the
paragraphs, but I want the first line of the new one to be indented,
which it isn't with ctrl+enter.

Pressing enter before inserting the figure helped. Thanks!

Oh, then I understand, but the margin note was too small. I could,
however, work if my question number 2 were solved.

Some things I wonder how to do

2006-04-25 Thread Albert Pettersson
Hi!

I have some things I would like to know how I do in LyX. I am completely new
to LaTeX and LyX.

   1. How can I put some text in the upper right corner of the first page
   (documentclass article)?
   2. Normally, the first line of a paragraph should be indented and not
the rest, but sometimes I want it to be on the contrary, with every line
except the first one indented. Is that possible?
   3. How can I start a new paragraph without starting a new number in a
numbered list? I mean that I want to have more than one paragaph to a
   number.
   4. When I have a figure, I can put the text (example: Figure 1: A
nice picture) above and beside the figure, but is it possible to put the
   text below the figure?

Thank you in advance!

Removing the date

2006-04-22 Thread Albert Pettersson
Hi!

I am completely new to both LaTeX and LyX and have a little problem, which
probably is very stupid. When I am writing, the date is put below the title
(documentclass article), but I don't want to have the date there. Is it
possible to remove it?
