Any idea why this failes? Is tehre a way to open the file in e.g. emacs
and remove the offending stuff? But how can I find it?

I can confirm that I could compile run lyx 1.3.2 successfully with gcc

always when I close the "insert [e]ps figure" dialog. Gdb tells me as
backtrace:
