Annoying behaviour of backspace key
Dear community, when I hold the backspace key for a moment and release it, it keeps deleting characters for a short moment which I find very irritating. Is there a way to define the backspace so that it imediately stops deleting when it is not pressed anymore? Regards, Tao
Re: Annoying behaviour of backspace key
Hiy Scott, thanks! Closing the source view reduced the lag significantly, but a little remains. Didn't expect this to be a cause of lag. I also tried a new document but couldn't see a noticeable change. I'm using Lyx 2.1.1 in a virtualized linux. There is no preference that you can set for this because LyX always tries its best to produce as little lag as possible. I don't think anyone would prefer to have lag. The solution is to figure out why LyX is running slow and thus giving you lag. A common reason for lag is that you have the view source panel open. Is that the case? Do you see the same behavior is you start a new document and you just paste a paragraph in it? Does the backspace still do the same thing? Also, it is useful when you send questions to always include you OS and its version as well as the LyX version you are using. Best, Scott

LilyPond preview inset with included files
Hi all, is there a way to make lilypond-snippets inside a preview-inset display when the snippet includes another lilypond-file with \include? I already removed all the --safe and -dsafe options from the lilypond-converters, this at least makes it possible to use \include in snippets generally, i.e. the compiled pdf looks fine. Just the preview processing fails. Regards, Tao
Re: LilyPond preview inset with included files
Also the preview doesn't seem to work at all when xelatex is used. Is there a workaround maybe? I'm using LyX 2.1.1, LilyPond 2.18, Tex Live 2014 under Linux Mint 17. 2014-08-09 20:48 GMT+02:00 Tao Cumplido taocumpl...@gmail.com: Hi all, is there a way to make lilypond-snippets inside a preview-inset display when the snippet includes another lilypond-file with \include? Is it possible to use lilypond-book options with the LilyPond module?
I would like to reduce the staff-size of the lilypond output and using #(set- global-staff-size 16) in the lilypond code doesn't work so I guess I need to change the lilypond-book options [staffsize=16] but I can't seem to do it from within Lyx.
Strange problem with the LilyPond module
Ok, one moment it worked fine and the other I get this notice that the lilypond-book --safe etc. command produced an error. At first I thought it had something to do with the recent installation of lilypond 2.15.35 so I tried reinstalling it but to no avail. Then I tried to just use my laptop instead where I had lilypond 2.15.35 already installed and it worked perfectly fine the last time I worked with it but now the same error. Exporting the lytex and running lilypond-book manually works fine. I then ran gksu lyx from terminal and suddenly the error didn't appear. Unfortunately this was only true for the lilypond.lyx example file. With gksu lyx couldn't find the installed linux libertine font anymore which I am using for my document. Also lyx looks different with gksu so no idea what's going on there. In the lyx-output the only thing hinting for the error is this line: 13:43:55.499: Missing set(['a3/lily-c23c9dee-systems.count']) ../../../src/support/Systemcall.cpp(270): Systemcall: 'lilypond-book --safe --pdf --latex-program=pdflatex --lily-output-dir=ly-pdf lilypond.lytex' finished with exit code 1

XeTeX fontspec error: font not found
I wanted to use the linux libertine fonts with xetex but am getting this error. I am on Linux Mint 11 and installed the latest texlive manually (previously I had an error with xetex and german as document language which I resolved this way). Then I tried to install the libertine otf fonts according to this manual: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/29 Lyx also recognizes the fonts but when I try to view the pdf I get the error that font is not found. Also tried reconfiguring Lyx. Regards, Tao

Strange indentation with multiline footnotes
I guess this might be more of a Latex question but maybe someone here can help me with that. So always when I insert a footnote that has more text than fits on one line, all subsequent lines are shifted somewhat to the right, which looks weird to me. So I'd rather have either the first line shifted as well, or all other lines not shifted. Is there a way not to do this manually for each footnote? Regards, Tao

But unfortunately that's not all. If I compile a German document with shorthands, I am still getting erroneous results: for example, ` instead of the expected opening quote results into the sequence ?`. This is because you are attempting to emulate shorthands using the \XeTeXinterchartoks primitive, which (according to the documentation) is intended just to insert something between two characters, but not to remove those characters from the output. If editing gloss-german.ldf is not an option, the workaround is to export the file from LyX and change the line \setdefaultlanguage[babelshorthands=true]{german} to \setdefaultlanguage{german} . Polyglossia's babel shorthands are an experimental feature. Does LyX use the babel shorthands anywhere? If not, please remove the [babelshorthands=true] option from the LyX generated output. Ok, I'm still new to Linux. I tried to export the file from LyX and removed babelshorthands but when I try reimport into LyX it doesn't seem to work. Where would I find this gloss-german.ldf and what needs to be changed there? Or would an update of texlive to the latest version fix the problem? (not sure how to do it though). Thanks so far, Tao

lyx can't find lilypond-book
Hi, I'm having trouble to get the lilypond-module to work. I'm on Windows 7 and have LyX 2.0 and Lilypond 2.14 installed and C:\Program Files\LilyPond\usr\bin is in the PATH. I havent't found any other clues on why this might be not working so any help would be great. Regards, Tao
problem with xetex-option
Hi, I want to use system-fonts so I tried to check the Use non-Tex fonts option but when I click View PDF (XeTeX) I get various errors. Is there something else that has to be done before it can be used? The errors are various of type Undefined control sequence, two of type LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document} and one of LaTeX error: kernel/command-not-defined. Regards, Tao

Actually I was trying with a simple document. Just a new document with a single word and the option checked. No preamble no other options or commands. Perhaps you use some latex commands that are not supported by xetex; or you have something specific in the preamble. Today I had similar issues when xetex was loading polyglossia and I had a babel-specific command in preamble. Check that xetex is OK by creating a very simple document and trying to compile it. lyx can't find lilypond-book
Hi, I want to use system-fonts so I tried to check the "Use non-Tex fonts" option but when I click View PDF (XeTeX) I get various errors. Is there something else that has to be done before it can be used? The errors are various of type "Undefined control sequence", two of type "LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document}" and one of "LaTeX error: kernel/command-not-defined". Regards, Tao
Re: problem with xetex-option
Actually I was trying with a simple document. Just a new document with a single word and the option checked. No preamble no other options or commands. Perhaps you use some latex commands that are not supported by xetex; or you have something specific in the preamble. Today I had similar issues when xetex was loading polyglossia and I had a babel-specific command in preamble. Check that xetex is OK by creating a very simple document and trying to compile it. Re: How to use German capital sharp s (U+1E9E)?
The Linux Libertine font has a capital sharp s. That's the font I'm using. I don't know for what purpose you need a capital ß, but in german ortography, the ß becomes SS when writing capitalized. I don't know yet whether I am gonna need it or not, but I'd like to know if it's possible before I start getting into Lyx seriously. Why does with Latex everything have to be so complicated? :/ Would it work if I got Xetex working with Lyx and use the xelibertine package? I found this article but I don't know if it will work for me since I am on WinXP. http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/XeTeX And if I got it to work would it still be possible to use the Lilypond converters? These are actually the main reason why I started using Lyx, because it's so easy to implement music snippets into a text document. How to use German capital sharp s (U+1E9E)?
When I try to print the German capital sharp s I get this error: 'Some characters of your document are probably not representable in the chosen encoding. Changing the document encoding to utf8 could help.' So, I changed the encoding to utf8 and get the following: 'Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8ẞ not setup for use with LaTeX.' I searched the User's Guide and found in chapter 'B.7. Language' this part: 'All characters that cannot be encoded using the specified encoding will be exported as LATEX-commands (this can fail if a LATEX-command is not known for a particular character).' This passage has the following footnote attached: 'The known commands are defined in a text file. You can add commands for unknown symbols to that file yourself, see the Customization manual for details.' But I couldn't find anything on this topic in the Customization manual. After some more searching I found the uni-*.def files in the Miktex directory. I tried to add a new command for the German capital sharp s like this '\...@dclc{7838}{default}{\vs ß}%' but it still won't work and since I didn't find any documentation I have no idea if I did something wrong. Re: how to use xelibertine?
Where is this part in the manual? Once we get an answer from someone, we can update it. It's in Customization.lyx, chapter 5. You cannot use xelibertine with LyX as it requires XeTeX. (There are workarounds for using XeTeX with LyX but this ... is really complicated . Well, I don't understand all this yet. I get that Miktex or Texlive are different basic latex-installations, but I don't really know what differences there are or which one is better for me. Also I don't get what Xetex is then, if it's already included in both of these. However, you can use the libertine package with LyX: Set the Fonts in DocumentSettings to default and write \usepackage{libertine} in DocumentsSettings: LaTeX preamble Thanks. That worked. I take that this type of package is part of Texlive. Now I see that this way I change the Default-setting for the fonts. I think I should have asked a more general question. I had no idea what this package-things are all about. I thought to use xelibertine I just had to install a tex-distribution where Xetex is included. I thought to use xelibertine I just had to install a tex-distribution where Xetex is included. using windows system fonts?
Hello, is it possible with LyX to access the system fonts on Windows XP? When I go to the Document options there are only very few fonts available to choose. If it's not possible to access these fonts directly is there another way to use them? Moving them to another folder mabye? how to use xelibertine?
Hello, I just updated to 1.6.2 and replaced MikTex with TexLive because I want to use xelibertine but I don't know how to do it. All this Latex-stuff is really complicated and I don't get how everything works together, also the part in the manual where it's explained how to install new font classe (*.sty) seems to be adressed to Linux users only but I am on WinXP. So, any help how to use the xelibertine package or how to use the Libertine fonts in any other way in Lyx would be highly appreciated. Regards, Tao -- Pt! Schon vom neuen GMX MultiMessenger gehört? (Actually, even that isn't strictly valid; the c: ought to be c|. But everyone uses and supports c:.) Ok that kind of works. But how am I supposed to know that the directory has to be written like this? There's no mention about this in the Hyperlink-chapter of the manual. Well, the PDF is processed and it works except in Acrobat where Firefox opens with an empty tab, but I guess that's an Acrobat problem?! Thanks! Tao -- Pt! Schon vom neuen GMX MultiMessenger gehört? Hyperlink question
Hi List, I just found out that Lyx can also be used to create presentations. It'd be nice if a presentation could link to external audio or video material so I was searching and came across the Hyperlink function. I tried to call a simple text file from C:\file.txt but got the following error: Text\href{file:C:\file.txt} {file-link} The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. Am I doing something wrong or is the function to be used otherwise in general? The User Guide isn't really clear on this topic. I am running Lyx 1.6.1 under WinXP. pixelated output
Hi, I am new to Lyx and still experimenting but it seems really good so far. One thing I noticed though, when I process a new file the letters are somewhat pixelated if scaled to high resolutions whereas the pdf from files like Tutorial.lyx for example looks perfect. Now my question is of course, what do I have to do so that the output from files I create also looks that smooth. I attached a file to demonstrate what I mean. regards, Tao -- Sensationsangebot verlängert: GMX FreeDSL - Telefonanschluss + DSL für nur 16,37 Euro/mtl.!* http://dsl.gmx.de/?ac=OM.AD.PD003K1308T4569a attachment: output-1600%.PNG
