Re: bibliography problem
Thanks! That did the trick exactly! Should there really be bullets by default in the bibliography section? Maybe that's a latex thing, but it seems strange/inappropriate. Either way, thanks for your workaround. -Jesse On Apr 19, 2006, at 8:51 PM, Johan Ingvast wrote: jesse mejia wrote: Hi, How can I remove the column that outputs to the left of my sources on the bibliography page that has the the source labels in brackets? I just had a similar problem and found a solution. Put this in the preamble: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and replace $\bullet$ with whatever you like. You can even leave it empty. The default is [#1]\hfill if you want to set it back. /johan
bibliography problem
Hi, I'm using the default LyX bibliography (it's the only one that doesn't give me errors), in the Report document class. How can I remove the column that outputs to the left of my sources on the bibliography page that has the the source labels in brackets? Thanks! -Jesse
Bibliography issue
Using the standard LyX bibliography (all the other options seem to output errors in my documents) Is there a way to remove the column to the left of the bibliographic items that lists their 'labels' in brackets? All I need is the bibliography as I typed it. Thanks, -Jesse
Re: LyX on Mac OS X: key binding strangeness
That's strange. I'm using LyX 1.4.0 on OSX 10.3.9 and cmd-, opens preferences while cmd-q quits. as it should do... Now as far as fixing it on your machine, I'm afraid I have no idea.. sorry. -J On Apr 5, 2006, at 4:24 PM, A S Hodel wrote: I've found a couple of behaviors of LyX 1.4.0 on Mac OS X (both 10.3 and 10.4) that are annoying and I don't know how to fix them. Key bindings listed in the menu are: CMD-, for preferences CMD-Q to quit. However, if I use "Cmd-," I instead get the "About LyX" dialog. This occurs even if I use the menu to select LyX preferences. The only exception is my first use of LyX after a reinstall. Similarly, if I use CMD-Q, it pulls up the document settings dialog, even if I use the menu instead of the key binding. I am at a loss on how to repair this behavior. Yours, A S Hodel
Re: LyX to OpenOffice
Does anyone know if theres an easy way to get these scripts running on OSX? No big deal if not... I can just convert on a linux box if it's not possible. (not under windows...but I don't think that should make a difference) Anyone know of a way to do it? Last time I had to re-arrange all my references manually, which led to fixing all of my footnotes! Since I've been careful to enter them in alphabetical order as I work, but there must be a way to re-order the list... -Jesse
problems after upgrading
I just upgraded from 1.3.something to 1.4.0 yesterday. It seemed fine/better with what I was working on, but today I opened up an older project and the output cuts off about half of the footnotes at the bottom of each page! It was set to A4 paper size previously, and I double checked that that is still the case...although I'm not sure that would cause this. Can anyone help? I'm pretty concerned because it's something I'll need to turn in for binding in about a week! (I guess I shouldn't have chosen this as a time to upgrade!) Thanks! -Jesse
citation style
the 'citation style' option in the dialog that comes up when adding a citation is greyed out. is there a way to change the style? in some cases I'd like to remove the brackets, and in come cases I'd like to give a full citation of the reference as it appears in my bibliography in the body of the paper. thanks, -jesse
Re: importing graphics (format question)
Well I'm hoping it will be the answer anyways! I'll know for sure when I have a little more time to test some things, http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/FiguresInLyX was where I found additional the information that I think will help me sort this out. I think I will just need to work out what should be doing conversions on my system. (OSX) But for now the pdflatex output option seems to handle .png's just fine. So I'll just convert my graphics files for now until I have time to investigate furthur. No images are currently being displayed in my lyx window, but that's not a big deal to me. -Jesse On Apr 2, 2006, at 6:30 PM, Robert Orr wrote: where is the ans. on the Wiki?? --- jesse mejia <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: sorry, found it in the wiki. it seems to be a problem with my install that I'll sort out later...in the meantime .png is working! -Jesse On Apr 2, 2006, at 5:47 PM, jesse mejia wrote: I'm getting the message: "error converting into a loadable format" when trying to insert .pict, .tiff, or .eps graphics. Re: page break and numbering issues
In fact I do see a class called 'paper' and a lot of other things that look worth checking out, "apa" etc. unfortunately in my installation (osx) they all say 'Unavailable:' in front of em. Can someone point me to a howto about installing new document classes, or making available those that are unavailable in my installation? Thanks, Jesse

Well I'm actually working on a research paper (musicology) for an MA. I couldn't find a document class for any sort of academic paper, maybe there is one I could install? I'm not picky about which set of standards (APA, MLA etc..) anything would due! Use ERT (the red ert button) and input \thispagestyle{empty} right after your pagebreaks for table and bib. Thanks! that did the trick! Did I miss the part of the manual that describes this sort of thing, or is it a Latex manual I need to learn this stuff? Select table, edit (or layout for 1.3.x)->paragraph settings. This unfortunatly didn't work. The title I gave the table was already set to align in the center, and when I go to the layout menu from any cell of my table, the 'paragraph' option is greyed out. -Jesse
page break and numbering issues
I am brand new to lyx, and was surprised to find myself needing to manually insert pagebreaks for my bibliography page, and for a table float. It seems like it should've happened automatically (I tried both the Report and Article document classes) Also, is there a way to remove page numbers from the output of the bibliography and table pages? And my last newbie question is this: my table oddly enough outputs justified all the way to the right side of the page. Do I need to tell it to center horizontally somehow? Thanks! Sorry if these are rather mundane questions, but I've read the manual and couldn't find answers! -Jesse
