Re: How to define and enforce a user style?

2011-11-14 Thread Julio Rojas
Dear Boyko, I am in the process of organizing a conference myself,
with papers made in Word and LaTeX. I decided, from scratch, to create
a Lyx template based on a simple two column "article" class with some
changes for the abstract (using the abstract module). Then, I exported
this template to LaTeX and created a very similar Word version. I can
tell you this workflow is pretty straighforward and the results have
been very good. If you would like, I can send you a direct email with
my Lyx template (as well as the Word version, in case you are
interested).

Regards.

Hi Boyko,

You would need to write a layout file for Lyx, based on the Latex style.

You can check:

-Rob's pages: http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/2009/11/02/custom-lyx-nih
- Steve Litt has also detailed instructions.

See also chapter 5 of the Customization manual, which addresses this
very issue. You will also want to look at the layout files that ship
with LyX.

Depending upon what your LaTeX style is, it may be quite simple to
define a LyX layout for it. This will largely depend upon how many
commands and environments it has that differ from something LyX already
makes available. But let's say the new class, ourconf.cls, is based upon
article.cls, with some additions and formatting changes. Then:

=

#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass{ourconf}

Format 31

Input article.layout

# Now add the new stuff

=

You don't necessarily need to change anything about formatting inside
LyX itself. LyX isn't WYSIWYG anyway.

How to define and enforce a user style?

2011-11-14 Thread Boyko Bantchev
Hello all,

I am involved in organizing a conference, where we would like to
process contributions using LaTeX. Those of the contributors that
are LaTeX users will be asked to submit their articles in LaTeX,
using a particular formatting style – not necessarily in the strict
sense of ‘LaTeX style’, but formal enough anyway.

For those contributors who will not be able to use LaTeX directly,
I'd like to offer the option of writing in LyX. For this, I would
need to create and make effective a LyX style that would enforce
the same structure and formatting as with the LaTeX style.

Being a long time LaTeX user but new to LyX, where shall I look at?
I would greatly appreciate pointing me to documentation, discussions
or any text related to LyX style creation, best of all along with
examples.

Thank you in advance,
   Boyko Bantchev
