Re: Unable to install MikTex with Lyx 2.0

2011-09-14 Thread Christian Wilhelmsen
I guess I am experiencing some of this problems because I work on a network
station. Even though I have administrator rights,
I just can not get this to work.

If the LyX installer just could have downloaded MikTex like it did before I
think it would have worked, since 1.6 worked flawlessly on the same (school)
network.

Unable to install MikTex with Lyx 2.0

2011-09-13 Thread Christian Wilhelmsen
Hi!

I am using Windows 7, and wanted to download and install Lyx 2.0.
The problem is that MikTex won't automatically install with the Lyx
installer, because of a 404 error.

I then downloaded and installed MikTex manually, but I do not know how to
tell Lyx how to use it.

Any suggestions on the matter?

Yes, I have tried to reconfigure, install miktex directly under C:, tried
installing the bundle packages but none of them works.

The bundle package allows me to press the output button, but it says that I
have space characters in path and is therefore not able to generate pdf.

I have to start writing my thesis yesterday so this is really frustrating.

The LaTeX log under "Document" is blanked out.

Attaching the .lyx and .tex

The guys on this list would usually prefer the *.lyx file. To access
the log, try to compile the document then go to teh menu item Document

It works just fine here on Xubuntu Linux.

I won't swear to it, but I think another MiKTeX user reported something similar
recently. (You might want to search the list archive on GMANE to see replies to
that message.) Try the following:

* In the Start menu, run the MiKTeX settings application. I'm not on a Win box
right now, so I'm working from memory. I think there are two versions (one for
administrators, one not). If so, run the admin version just to be safe.

* In the first tab, there should be two buttons near the top, labeled something
like "Update Formats" and "Refresh FNDB". Do them in that order. I'm not sure
you need the second one, but it can't hurt.

* Reconfigure and restart LyX and see if things work.

* If things still don't work, run "pdflatex file.tex" against your test doc and
see if it spits up any meaningful errors (i.e., more meaningful than the one
above).

BTW, I've used MiKTeX (with LyX) for years on Windows, and have not had a
problem with spaces in file paths. Most of my LyX docs reside under
"My Documents".
