Since 1.5.3 is not that old and wasn't released with any stable release of one of the big distributions it would be suprising to find it anywhere on a Live CD. But I do know that Fedora Core 8 has Lyx 1.5.3. I used the install dvd and I don't remember having to yum install lyx. Though I probably used the pre-install customization screens to select it. And it is possible that I ran a generic yum update and got an updated lyx along with many other packages. But I *think* lyx 1.5.3 was on the dvd... The reason I mention this is that according to: http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora There are fedora 8 LIVE downloads available... Under the heading Fedora Desktop Live Media is listed: * i686 - Live CD * x86_64 - Live DVD * ppc - Live DVD Under the heading Fedora KDE Live Media is listed: * i686 - Live CD * x86_64 - Live DVD I have doubts about lyx being on the live cds (only 700 meg) But if these other machines can run a 64 bit os, or if the ppc version will work for the OP, then with over 4 gig of space on the live dvds, they had room to include it. Of course your mileage may vary... I guess that should be ok. Of course it still leaves the question open if it's included in the LiveCD or at least the DVD.
