One thought: did you by any chance install aspell.exe into your lyx
directory (or perhaps into your path)? Ruurd's distribution contains only
aspell.dll and he writes the aspell executable is useless for LyX.

I've got LyX 1.3.2 (old=only version from Reitsma) working fine with
Aspell
on winnt4/sp5. Which windows version are you using?
I am using Windows2000 Professional.
Andre Poenitz has kindly suggested me that I could run Aspell on the command
line (DOS console)and it brilliantly works with TeX
