Hello LyX Users: Question about asymptote package within a LyX document.
Hello LyX Users: I just read the article by Justin Domke with link: https://justindomke.wordpress.com/2017/05/24/the-second-and-third-best-features-of-lyx-you-arent-using/. My question is: ►How could we call the asymptote package from within a LyX document?. For example: From Justin Domke, we can write: \begin{tikzpicture} \draw[red] (0,0) -- (0,1); \draw[green] (0,1) -- (1,1); \draw[red] (1,1) -- (1,0); \draw[blue] (1,0) -- (0,0); \end{tikzpicture} and obtain the corresponding figure. How could we prepare LyX to be able to evaluate, for example: begin{asy}size(0,100);import geometry;triangle t=triangle(b=3,alpha=90,c=4);dot((0,0));draw(t);draw(rotate(90)*t,red);draw(shift((-4,0))*t,blue);draw(reflect((0,0),(1,0))*t,green);draw(slant(2)*t,magenta); \end{asy} and obtain the figure? (note: the example code is from the gallery in link: https://asymptote.sourceforge.io/gallery/triangle.asy ) ►I already tested the previous asymptote code from a LyX document, with the LaTeX preamble including: \usepackage[inline]{asymptote}, but the result was the generation of PDF without errors, but also without the expected figure. Thank you very much in advance for any pointer to answer this question. Congratulations for supporting the use of the great editor LyX.Best regards,Enrique Comer | | Libre de virus.www.avast.com | -- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users

Hello, After installing Windows 10 October Update 1809; it caused problems with my graphics card and one structural analysis software. I had to re-install graphics drivers and that software. When it comes to LyX, it took about 10-15 to start and it started as if it is freshly installed with the Wlecome to LyX page. It reset some of the information such as open file list. I do not have user customization on my PC so I do not know if those will be affected. So it may be a good idea to backup LyX customization if there are any. I have tested a complicated LyX document and it compiled just fine. I have checked MikTeX and it works fine as well. My recommendation is: do not to install this update if you do not need it. I had to do it on my PC for some other reasons. If you really need to install this update , back up your LyX customization first as there is chance you may loose them. BE

can't compile hello world document from tutorial
Hi, I have freshly installed LyX (V 2.0.3, Ubuntu 13.04) and am working through the Tutorial. I create a new document with a few words in it. When I save it and attempt to view it I get the message Emergency stop. File ended while scanning use of \kvsetkeys. * newfile1.tex *** (job aborted, no legal \end found) However, I have no problems opening, editing and viewing any of the example documents that came with the installation. Completely removing and re-installing the package does not help. I presume that some preamble text that is created with the new document is mal-formed, but I don't know what it is or why it shuld be like that for a feeshly installed LyX. Any suggestions? Thanks Ross

Hi Ross, this should not happen indeed. I suspect your standard template is corrupted. Could you check if it helps to remove the file ~/.lyx/templates/defaults.lyx (if this file is there)? If not, could you post here a simple file that fails? Jürgen

Hello Windows Branch
Any word on when the Windows binaries might be available for 2.0.1? I've been eagerly awaiting the first bug fix before installing the 2.x family. Thanks for all your great work. Jim

[new user] hello everyone, and 2 questions..
Hi everyone i am a new user, i am writing my degree thesis in lyx since i don't want to use Word (the results with lyx are far better) However i incurred in 3 problem that i need to solve if i want to make EVERYthing in lyx: 1. I should use a particular position for the inscription of the first page, the title should be in the middle, and the authors should be on the left and right...Title works fine, but authors wants to put in the middle as well...I tried to use standard, but then they switch to the next page..this is unacceptable. So i need to know how can i force them to be all in the same page, or how to relax the restrictions on the position of text for the Author field. 2. I don't want the date to be added automatically at the end of every chapter i make, how can i remove it? 3. seems to me that defskip, smallskip, bigskip don't work usually unless i protect them...is this fine? Thanks everyone!

assasukasse schrieb: i am a new user, i am writing my degree thesis in lyx since i don't want to use Word (the results with lyx are far better) First of all you need to decide what document class you use. I can recommend a koma-skript class because it is highly customizable. Also the memoir class is a good choice. However i incurred in 3 problem that i need to solve if i want to make EVERYthing in lyx: 1. I should use a particular position for the inscription of the first page, the title should be in the middle, and the authors should be on the left and right... I wonder why you have multiple authors for your thesis. Attached is a LyX-file with an example title page with two authors using the koma-skript book class. 2. I don't want the date to be added automatically at the end of every chapter i make, how can i remove it? This depends on the document class you use. (this is not the case with koma-script) 3. seems to me that defskip, smallskip, bigskip don't work usually unless i "protect" them...is this fine? This should work, maybe again your document class redefines them. You could post a SMALL LyX example file. regards Uwe Title page.lyx Description: application/lyx

Of course I can use the math pad to insert them, but looking at the generated code, it reads: \begin_inset Formula $\Omega$ \end_inset so I suspect I am doing something wrong, since I actually do not want a formula there (containing a single Greek character) but only a single Greek character. What is the correct way to do so? I don't know what's correct or incorrect, but within either the layout file or the document prefix you could define a TeX command to do that for you: \def\myomega{$\Omega$} From then on, you'd simply need to put \myomega and the character would be made for you. ERT stands for Evil Red Text, a nickname for stuff you insert using Insert-TexCode. I think within LyX you might be able to do something with Environments so that no ERT is required, but I'm not sure how to do that. 2) Using Edit / Find Replace (or the Ctrl-F shortcut) will bring up a box where you can enter what you want to find and/or replace. How to enter Greek characters there? If you're putting these characters in via ERT, then on my LyX (1.4.2) LyX's find command searches ERT right along with regular text. SteveT

Hello, I would like to give a short introduction on myself and why I joined this mailing list about a week ago (only lurking so far). My name is Tom Schlangen and I am from Germany. My hobby is audio amplifiers using old electron valve technology, and some weeks ago I started writing a book about this theme, aimed at other valve audio DIYers. This book will contain a lot of formulae and schematics, and for reasons not necessary to explain here ;-) I am using LyX to do so. I would like to thank all developers of LyX for making it available to us mere users in the first place. I am using LyX version 1.4.3-5, installed on two machines, one being a Linux box (Debian), the other using a W2k environment. The W2k environment is unavoidable for some reasons I do not want to bother you with. During the last weeks, I explored the LyX environment, including some secondary literature pointed at by the LyX Wiki site, mainly dealing with graphics file conversions, and so on. Still, some questions remain, and I am sure some more will come up in the future, possibly not being covered by the excellent help files/tutorials yet. I hope my questions will not be too stupid in your eyes. To start, I have two somewhat related questions: 1) I need to use Greek letters (for example capital Omega for Ohm) outside formulae, within plain text. LyX is a fantastic piece of software and I have been trying to encourage staff and students at my University (Portsmouth) to adopt it. However, the University runs a centralised Novell network so it would have to be the Win32 port and anything interesting like fonts or libraries would have to be installed at runtime, Novell-style. Does anyone have any experience in doing this which might make this easier for the Uni computer people? A feature which would do a great deal to persuade people to start using LyX would be the integration of a CAS like Maple or Matlab (the two used most here at Portsmouth). I have no idea how hard this would be to implement but I have seen other programs which talk to Maple and Matlab so an interface must exist. If LyX was linked up to such a CAS, this would be a big step on the way to introducing a 'Maths spell checker'. A feature which could try to highlight inconsistencies in lines of algebra working would be a great incentive for both staff and students to adopt LyX. Re: Hello and 3 questions
Hi every body, Mr. Omma did some questions and thought the one dobt remains.. How can I put all bibliography together at the end when I have a master file with several include file ? That is my dobt too. Some body know to do it please share with us. best regards, Renato Damas. On Thursday 05 August 2004 14:01, Henrik Nilsen Omma wrote: Hello everyone, I've been using LyX for a few months, but this is my first posting to the list. I'm writing a Ph.D. thesis in physics of about 150 pages in 7-8 chapters plus appendices, etc. There are obviously lots of equations, images, and figures. I've made 1 file for each chapter to keep it manageable and a master file with include statements. I only want one bibliography at the end. I also use BibTex and NatBib. And now I have some questions :) (I apologise if these have been asked here before) 1. How can I do appendix style numbering? I'd like to number the appendix pages as A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2, etc. (I've worked out that I can use ERT: \setcounter{page}{1} and found a description opf how to do roman numerals for the TOC, but how do you prefix the number with an 'A-'?) 2. How to make line spacing different for different sections? The thesis needs to be double spaced, but that looks really silly in the table of contents and bibliography. How do I specify single spacing for those sections? 3. Language problems: When I paste a block from one document to another, I sometimes get blue underline, which I've read signifies a foreign language. I can turn off the notification in the Preferences, but I still get the error message: 'Package babel Error: You haven't loaded the option english yet. [EMAIL PROTECTED]' I have selected English in Document settings and preferences. Ideas? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Henrik

A 2-dimensional gravitational potential and temperature profile were selected, and a corresponding density gradient was constructed in hydrostatic equlibrium.

I don't have either of them, so I changed the class to article, and everything went fine (lyx 1.3.5cvs on linux). I get the blue underlines, because the language is different, but the latex output works. I guess it has something to do with the .layout files of your thesis classes. BTW, you should use the same class for all parts of the doument. Georg
Hello and 3 questions
Hello everyone, I've been using LyX for a few months, but this is my first posting to the list.

I would like to use a style, if anyone exsists, avoiding insertion of tex code in LyX. Use natbib. In lyx 1.1.6, you need to add \usepakcage{natbib} to the preamble, and then select the plainnat bib style in the Bibtex inset dialog.

hello! BibTeX style packages LyX information request
Hello everybody. I'm using LyX LyX 1.1.6 fix 4 in Gnu/Linux, Debian distr.( I know, is not the last one, but I'm not one of the network administrators). I'm quite new to BibteX file and Style files. Using Bibview I can produce bib-file and import them in Lyx. My problem is that I would like/I need to use styles different from plain, alpha and the others standard. 1) How can I properly install packages downloaded from CTAN? Or at least, Where can I found really effective explanations about it (possibly, short/quick but detailed and mostly accurate)? I have not root privileges. I would like to put all my LyX and TeX, LaTeX, BibTeX personal stuff on my home directory. I have to create something similar to the TDS in texmf in my home? And then which program I have to run for let TeteX know my personal stuff? I would like to use a style, if anyone exsists, avoiding insertion of tex code in LyX. 2) And then for using 1) in LyX ? How can I do or where I have to look/read? I look forward to hear from you Bye Carlo
