LyX is no WYSIWYG , is WYSIWYM, the M standing for Mean.
In order to do a quickly update you can use the keyboard. For instance
S+Ctrl+D updates the dvi output in my machine check you menu for the
accelerator

Hi After looking at lyx and going through the tutorial, I thought it
was a pretty good idea.
However, I do have some problems with it. The preview buttons don't give
as feedback as a pure WYSIWYG editor.
Maybe having an view (kpdf or kdvi) instantous updated after every edit
would be a good idea.
