Related info: I contacted the developer of the cm-super package and he liked the idea of generating slightly darker cm-super fonts.. said he'll try to implement it sometime early next year.. I'd been able to generate darker output by changing the metafont mode and regenerating the fonts.. that was on my windows machine in cygwin.. for some mysterious reason the same approach isn't working on my Linux machine.. :-( nirmal

I found the output really heavy and black (to be fair, times new Roman is a copy of Times Roman, which is a newspaper font, not a book font, so the requirements are different). In the extended manual, several tricks are suggested to get good displays in Acroread. I tried them, none worked. However since I use times font, I have included in the preamble, \usepackage{times} it works pretty fine. This could be suggested in the documentation. Pierre
