Many thanks Paul.  Works  like a charm.
I had been coming to the conclusion that I was probably going to have to
reinstall LyX since I could not get LyX to compile even when the expression
$\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ was outside the TikZ environment.

I tend to use those packages you and Jurgen stripped out, quite a lot so they
are in my basic template.  I am not likely to really need dfrac{} other than to
duplicate the examples in the document I am working through so it's not likel
to be a practical problem for me.

Wait a minute!  I find that find that $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ works just fine with
them loaded both inside and outside TikZ environment  as long as I load the AMS
package manually.  Excellent.

Thanks to both of you.

Probably should have said that stripping out the \usepackage statements
was not because there was a collision between them and something else --
it's because I don't have those packages installed (and did not want to
install them just to go bug-hunting).

Problem with fraction in TikZ insert

2014-02-28 Thread John Kane
I have been experimenting with TikZ and have been through the manual TikZ pour
l'impatient, (Gérard Tisseau et Jacques Duma) 15 novembre 2013 Everything was
going well until I hit the second example on pg. 18. Everything is fine until I
try to add a fraction , the \draw (22:1.5) node {$\dfrac{\pi}{4}$}; line and I
don't see what is wrong.

It looks like the problem is in the fraction expression because it works if I
switch to \draw (22:1.5) node {$Z$};.

The orignal works just fine in LaTeX. Am I missing something obvious or
encountering a package conflix of some kind?

Thank Jurgen.
I had forgotten I even had them loaded.  They are part of my normal template.
The shortinsets-name is a relatively new one by Andrew Parsloe that hides long
inset names giving less distraction for something like labels or
cross-references

Unfortuately I am still getting the same error after removing those modules and
even reloading LyX.  I even removed the local layout I had and stripped the
preamble to nothing but \usepackage{tikz}  with no better result.

I, also, tried it in Lyx 2.1 with no luck.

I'm not using it, just experimenting for future possible use so it not a panic.
