LyX 2.3 with QT5

Hi,     I am attempting and failing to compile 2.3 with QT5 in Debian Stretch.  Setting QTDIR to all directories-qt5 in turn produces the same configuration failure, suggesting QT5DIR is set incorrectly.     Has anyone done this successfully?  If so would you please explain what needs to be done
