$p$... either Ctrl+m (in-line) or Ctrl+shift+m (displayed)... then p, then Space to get out of math mode. $\cal{M}$... same as above to enter math mode... then \cal + Space to get into the {} bracket... then M, then Space to get out of the {} bracket, followed by Space to get out of math mode.
