 Hello,

I am running LyX 1.6.2 on a Mac (Intel) and using the script (pipe) of Mark
 Reid http://www.threewordslong.com/projects/misc/bibdesktolyx/. Although,
when I go to: LyX, insert citation , there is no citations available. I
understand that I can do this from (BibDesk right click on article Send
to LyX, but running everything on LyX would be a lot easier. Am I supposed
to load the list of references in some way on LyX?

Yes, in lyx go Insert List/Toc BibTex bibliography. And put it
where you want your bibliography to appear.

Thanks,
It all depends what kind of writing you do. The styles that ship with
the standard LaTeX distribution tend to be weighted heavily to the maths
and the physical sciences, so you might want to go to your local CTAN
mirror and check out other styles (MLA, Chicago, Harvard etc.) although
some of these can be achieved through other styles (e.g. I use jurabib
to emulate Chicago).

Is there any reference material on how to use Bibdesk with Lyx?

I assume Bibdesk is a kind of BibTeX-editor. Create a bib-file in the
application and then read the documentation about references in the LyX
manual. Here you'll find a description on importing your bib-file and insert
references.

 Also,
are there alternate programs that can be used to insert references in
 a thesis.

Yes. Use Pybliographer:

http://pybliographer.org/

Besides being an easy to use application it also have some specific features
for LyX.

I belive pybliographer needs to be compiled on OS X.. bibdesk seems
fine in terms of functionality.. jabref works out of the box on OS X
and also has the push to LyX feature (I don't know how useful this
feature is since adding citations from within LyX is just as easy).
Hope this helps.
