I think that you are referring to something that it used to be in
"Edit->Text Style".

IIRC there was an option called "Apply previous change..." or something like
it. I always found it confusing because it did not work for me if I wanted to
apply it to logical/markup text styles like Code, Noun, ...

Interestingly enough the feature that you mention seems to be present in the
development version (2.4) in "Edit->Text Properties->Apply Last Settings". In
2,4 the logical/markup text styles are/will be in a different entry
"Entry->Custom Text Styles".

If my search-fu is correct this should be
https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/11427

I hope that this helps,

Joel,
what I am after, described with two examples:

this used to show - as far as I remember- in the old golden times -
ctr r at the right. In my present LyX there is none (LyX Version 2.3.5.2

2. Suppose I am translating text from German into English. The German
figure has in the short title as well as in the legend blue underlined
text. To get rid of it after the translation, I do

ctr a in the legend > which selects the text.
A right mouse click > Language > English UK
Now I have to do the same with the short title, since the change in
language does not work for the short title, when I do it in the legend.

I don't mind to do it for a few legends, but if you have hundred of
them, it would be nice to get in the selection the short cut.
I just wonder, whether I haven't found the right way of using it; as
said already, I am quite sure I had this feature before.

existing key bindings for that action. The LyX menus also list the
defined key bindings. The notation for the key bindings is very
similar

to the notation used in this documentation, so you should not have any
problems understanding it. However, notice that Shift-modifiers are
explicitly mentioned, so “Alt+P Shift+A” means Alt+P followed by a
capital A.

Let' say, I paste with the mouse a few words in my document and do

The status bar is where you see "Font: Default" with an empty document
open. When I take the steps you did I see:

Action: Paste text with the mouse
Status bar text: "Paste (paste ⌘V, ⇧Ins)"

which indicates that the paste keyboard shortcut is are ⌘V and ⇧Ins (on
Mac).

Action: Make text bold via the shortcut (on mac ⌘B)
Status bar text: "Font: Bold"

So, it seems if I trigger an action via the mouse, the shortcut is
shown
while when I already know the shortcut and press it, the shortcut is
not

shown. Makes sense to me.

Similarly: if you press the Emphasis toolbar button with the mouse, the
keyboard shortcut is shown, while if you press the shortcut it is
not shown.

"where you see "Font: Default""

Where should I see it?

See the attached screen capture. If you work in full screen it might
be hidden depending on your setting of Hide Statusbar in Preferences >
Editing > Control.

Let's take another example:
I would like to use a Bookmark

I do
 >Navigate>Bookmarks>Save Bookmark1 and I am told to use ^ + F1

How do I invoke the status bar and how do I get this shortcut ^ + F1
into it?

The status bar is always there (with the restriction mentioned above).
The status bar will show the shortcut briefly if you click on the menu.

Finally I would like to have a status bar shown with a number of
often used shortcuts in it at which I could click after having
selected a marked sequence of words or whatever, or after being at a
certain place in the document where the action (bookmark1) should be
triggered

Currently, the status bar only shows the shortcut for the command
issued. I guess what you would like to see is often used commands and
their shortcuts (maybe depending on the context). I don't think this
is currently implemented but it might be a good idea, so you could
file an enhancement request.

I seem to remember LyX showing possible shortcut keys in the statusbar
once a modifier key was pressed but cannot see this currently (at
least on macOS).

Thanks, Daniel and Paul. I wasn't brave enough to click on the > 's
which shows a huge number of shortcuts. So my lyx seems to be ok.
My question is, whether there is a selection of some of the most useful
shortcuts, and whether (and how) they are displayed in my lyx document.

Is Help > Shortcuts doing what you are after?

Wolfgang
In that same dialog, there is a table with headings 'Function' and
'Shortcut'. The first column contains categories with buttons ('+') to
expand the category. Are you saying that you expanded all the categories
and there were no shortcuts at all? That would be an error, since the
cua bindings should be listed there.

I just moved from Windows to Mac (Macbook pro), on OS Maverick, using Lyx
2.1.0 (April 2014 release). I cannot make most of the shortcuts work. I
 understand that e.g. the shortcut for \gamma, ^ M G G , stands for
ctlr-m-m-g, but if I press this key combination nothing happens. Using either
the command or option keys instead of ctrl also makes no difference (or
 produces different results).

Hi Paola,

the shortcut for \gamma on Mac is Control-m g g - four key strokes: Control, m,
g, g.

This works for me.

Stephan

I read somewhere that the ctrl key is not recognised in Lyx, so I changed the
shortcuts in lyx\preferences\Editing\shortcuts, but again nothing happens
(for the specific example to Command M G G). I have checked and the system
 is using the mac.bind.

Can anyone suggest a (simple please!) solution? I am a total beginner with
Mac OS, so I am not at all confindent with meddling with configuration files,
and would love any solution implementable from inside the Lyx gui.

 Thanks!

Hi Paola,

the shortcut for \gamma on Mac is Control-m g g - four key strokes: Control, m,
g, g.

This works for me.

Thank you Stephan, I know feel rather silly: since it works for you, I
kept insisting, looking at the message log, and I finally realised that
I have to let go of the ctrl key after the first G - thanks a million!

Hi All,

I hope somebody can help - I have searched the message board, but there is
nothing recent that I could find to solve my problem.

I just moved from Windows to Mac (Macbook pro), on OS Maverick, using Lyx 2.1.0 (April
2014 release). I cannot make most of the shortcuts work. I understand that e.g. the
shortcut for \gamma, "^ M G G" , stands for ctlr-m-m-g, but if I press this key
combination nothing happens. Using either the command or option keys instead of ctrl also
makes no difference (or produces different results).

Hi Paola,

the shortcut for \gamma on Mac is Control-m g g - four key strokes: Control, m,
g, g.

This works for me.

I read somewhere that the ctrl key is not recognised in Lyx, so I changed the shortcuts
in lyx\preferences\Editing\shortcuts, but again nothing happens (for the specific example
to "Command M G G"). I have checked and the system is using the mac.bind.

Can anyone suggest a (simple please!) solution? I am a total beginner with Mac
OS, so I am not at all confindent with meddling with configuration files, and
would love any solution implementable from inside the Lyx gui.

Thanks!

Sorry, to be more precise: the first and the second are combined.

I just moved from Windows to Mac (Macbook pro), on OS Maverick, using Lyx
