I’ve used M102 occasionally for conference and meeting memos at work. The
keyboard is good, so I can type without looking at the screen and still get a
readable memo.
The only extra hassle is transferring the files.

You are trying to use a cell phone as a cassette drive? I have had no luck with
iOS. I suscept the recorded audio gets compressed and some bits are lost.
One could check this by recording on iOS first, and then playing back from iOS,
recording into Audacity as uncompressed wav, and checking if
Welcome to the group and congratulations on getting a 102! Make sure you go to
your local cafe with it when you get it...

Thanks for trying it out! It would be great to get that working, but the GSM
voice compression of a mobile phone is tough beast to beat. Also, some 'retro'
handsets say they 'enhance' the sound, thus I believe there might some filters
in those.
One standard data protocol that is able to go
If we are to believe wikipedia, UK models might not have a modem.

For some reason I've not encountered this implementation of GW-BASIC before. It
looks really great, I'll take a closer look.

The keyboard is incredible. I can write down stuff in meetings without looking
at it. Indeed: I've started to use M102 in the office. Still occasionally, but
the usage is increasing.
For text file transfer to Windows and back, I'm using PuTTY and a serial USB
adapter.

This would have been my suggestion, too. After all, "Cloud storage" was
available already in the 80's...
Here's the current dial-up BBS list:

I would advise to login first using telnet, with something that supports VT100
terminal type. Then go
What's wrong with C-cassettes? Unless you have a ton of data, those are a cheap
storage option.
And if you do not want to use them, you can get a decent drive made out of any
voice recorder (mp3, wav...) that supports high bitrates with low compression.
For example, 48kHz uncompressed wav.
Even if Model 100 does not work with the latest technology, no big deal for me.
It's the other way around.
With Model 100 I'm looking for a distration free environment: no internet, no
email. That does not come as a standard feature any more.
Along the same lines, once in a while, I remove the

They still are.
In case you haven't noticed, there are brand new cells phones in the market
without text messaging. With big, friendly buttons and small LCD screens. These
are for people who only want the essential functionality and like to avoid
distractions, like checking your phone for
It's also on my todo list (category: later... way later). The hardware is not
difficult to make but some interrupts may have to bypassed in order to drive

Would make a super cool project!

Just got to thinking about that
Panasonic KX-P1080/81/90/91 printers work with M100 and you can still get new
ribbons for them. These are 9 pin dot matrix printers.
You need the M100 paraller printer cable, of course. Not too difficult to build
from scratch.

Has anyone looked the M100/102 from an IP (patent) viewpoint? Most of those may
have expired, if not all.
Just wondering how much would a 1:1 re-creation cost today. A group of
Russians(?) reverse-engineered a Nintendo GBA, so anything is possible.
The M100 keyboard and the display might be
