Re: [M100] TPDD2 boot disk drive.

2019-07-29 Thread Brian White
The ones I made to put up on arcadeshopper were specifically to provide
reproductions of the originals, because otherwise there is no way to copy
them still, not because it's the best dos.

Also, aren't there utils in the m100sig that require the original dos? They
call routines from the original floppy or flopy2.

I think if you don't specifically want the original disk for one of those
reasons like preservation or dependency, then you don't need any disk at
all, especially for tpdd1 where the bootstrap procedure is not convenient.

I made one for myself that has TS-DOS for the 100/200 and NEC on it along with
some utilities that I use for the NEC like LINE and XFER. Memory test utilities
might be a good idea as well. I have one that came with my SideCar for the NEC
but I'm sure there are similar ones for the 100 and 200.

John,

I would agree with you about using a real TPDD for every day use. But I they
are fund to spin up every now and then.

According to the TS-DOS manual (http://www.club100.org/library/doc/tsdos.html)
there is such a disk. Though I have never come across it. Looks like the boot
code along with ts-load are the required pieces.

If people are really excited about using a real TPDD maybe we should be
making TSDOS boot disks.

I don't see the point of using a real TPDD but I really don't see the point

I assume such an animal exists?

Scott, glad to see you are willing to do this. If I may offer a suggestion.
There is quite a bit of space left on the default TPDD2 system disk. Saving
DOS100.CO and DOS200.CO onto that disk would allow a user to boot Floppy.CO and
then use it to load TS-DOS. Just a thought.

Re: [M100] TPDD2 boot disk drive.

2019-07-29 Thread Kurt McCullum
A couple questions.
1) What are you planning to do with the boot disk?
2) Do you have a PC setup with the proper cable for TPPD emulation?

The reason for asking is this. The boot disk allows you to 'boot' or load
Tandy's TPDD client software onto your computer. This is floppy.co. It works,
but there are better options. If you don't have any kind of PC connection to
your model-t then you have two options. First is to get the boot disk and live
with the limitations of floppy.co. The second would be to load TS-DOS over an
audio connection to your machine. The MP3 file is in the folder below. If you
do have a PC connection, you can use mComm to inject TS-DOS into your machine.
This is just a text file that gets sent over and load TS-DOS into memory. Other
options are to get REX or a ROM which has TS-DOS on it.

Re: [M100] REX

2019-07-29 Thread Josh Malone
Fred,

If this is one of my REX units (shipped with wood spacer and a purple
polka-dot ribbon) then my apologies for your issues. I tested the
spacer sizing in 100, 102, and 200 units and found what seemed like
the right size to prevent over-insertion and "spontaneous removal".
I'd have to check my notes, but I sanded my boards down to a precise
size which I think was 0.048" (~1.2mm). They do require a very firm
insertion into the socket -- you may feel uncomfortable applying that
much force -- but you should feel the board snap into place below the
catch in the pins. If you don't feel a "snap" then it is possible that
the spacer board is too thick for whatever reason. I don't use any
adhesive, etc. on my boards to make it easier to repair them should
anything go wrong, but I've also had one other issue with a user
neglecting to install the spacer which caused damage to the REX and
his M100, so I will be changing to adhesive spacers on my next batch
(which I'm producing the Tandy Assembly).

When you install REX, do you feel it snap into place? Can you send
pictures of the installed REX? (You'll have to find a host for them
since the list doesn't handle attachments; or send them directly to
me)

Brian's work with the new REX PCB and the 3D-printed carrier looks
neat -- I'm following his progress -- so if you continue to have fit
issues one of those carriers might solve your problem, as well.
