Yeah, that's not optimal. My intent has been to grab a copy of
mailman and fiddle with the settings to see which one is affecting
the mailers (my most recent version of Thunderbird is producing
the same behaviour again when I hit Reply All), but life keeps
snarfing all my free time at the moment.

I only got one, but your To: line is m100@lists.bitchin100.com,
m...@bitchin100.com

And from what others have said, Gmail removes duplicates.

I assume you're not doing a reply-all

Re: [M100] E-mail duplications

2018-09-13 Thread Mike Stein
I actually have two accounts, dating back to my pre-Gmail days when my ISP was
pretty unreliable. Ironically, Willard is the only one whose posts are
consistently duplicated, but not in the Gmail account; perhaps Gmail filters
out the duplicate.

FWIW, here's what I see (using OE Express):

John's post (for example) shows both incoming 'To:' and 'Reply to Sender:' as
'm...@bitchin100.com'

'Reply to All' shows a duplicated
'm...@bitchin100.com;m...@bitchin100.com'

Willard's posts also include the 'lists' address:

The incoming 'To:' field shows: 'm100@lists.bitchin100.com;m...@bitchin100.com'

'Reply to Sender:' only goes to:
m...@bitchin100.com

'Reply to All:' goes to all three:
'm...@bitchin100.com;m100@lists.bitchin100.com;m...@bitchin100.com'

For some mail agents, yes. For me (Thunderbird) it's Reply List
that causes m100@lists.bitchin to come up, but I'm unable to reply
to both. However my web mail client has no problem bringing up both.

I'm not certain where it's pulling that address from either - there's
a "List-Post" header, but I didn't think that was officially recognised.

Re: [M100] E-mail duplications

2018-09-13 Thread Daryl Tester

Willard's reply is a classic example - two copies go out, because reply
all goes to both m100@lists.bitchin100.com and m...@bitchin100.com (and
I see both). Some people have mail infrastructure that detects the
duplicates (probably from the message ID) and discards them. I'm not
sure why this happens - recipient and reply-to are both set to
m...@bitchin100.com (there is a header
"X-Original-To: m100@lists.bitchin100.com", but mail readers shouldn't
be concerning themselves with that).

No I see it too. Actually I've been getting a little cranky about
it! :-(

What was happening with me is that, when I reply to the list, instead
of being presented with a "To:" address of m...@bitchin100.com it comes
up as "CC:". Hence, if I don't manually change it to "To:" I send the
list 2 copies of my response.

So I have to be careful and manually set the header to "To:".

(This is in Claws Mail under Raspian). I imagine other pretty pretty
GUI apps are doing the same thing. I think it's trying to send
the response to the originator (m100 list) and also to everybody else
(m100 list...)

So yeah, it would be appreciated if posters would take the time to make
sure the post is To: m100... and not CC: m100

[M100] E-mail duplications

2018-09-12 Thread Peter Noeth
All / Moderator,

What is the purpose of sending an e-mail to m...@bitchen100.com and
cc'ing m...@lists.bitchen100.com

I subscribe to the list daily (or so) digest, and for all e-mails sent in
this way, I see the first e-mail and immediately after it, a duplicate.

Doesn't this consume an un-necessarily large amount of storage space,
especially when replying to other long discussions? I know, for me, it can
make it difficult to read the digest and follow along.

No flames, Just curious,

Peter
