I use to see that problem with PDF files on my Windows machines, but that was because the file had been scanned in as an image, and hadn't started life as a text document. The doc in this case is a word 2007 doc. Maybe Text Edit is too basic to handle passworded files? - Andy On 18 Aug 2013,
