Can you please tell me the difference between the three sleep mode, and what do
they do?

The only sleep mode I'm aware of is stand by. where the system shuts down,
sort of, but leaves your system in a suspend state. It does not save all of
your work to ram disk though. Hibernate mode, which can be gotten through an

When a Mac goes to sleep, a disk image is saved to flash memory of your
current open apps and work in case your battery drains or there is a power
failure while the sytem is asleep. Basically, everything is suspended and only
the most basic hardware is kept running, like power to USB or
yeah. I drained my mac charging my iPhone all night once. and I forgot that I
was on battery power and that I was in sleep mode when I crashed. Well, I
learned my lesson that day when I could not practice for a performance. lol!
