Yeah the drive weather it is an upgrade or a clean install will be reindexed.

reference, I've never gotten the backup or rewind functions (or
whatever vlc calls it) to work, in *any* version of vlc with any
version of osx.
I don't think you're experiencing anything new, but it could just be me.
