[MacGroup] Revisit YouTube Video's

2017-07-20 Thread John Robinson
Last week I ask if there was any way to “save your spot” in a YouTube video, so
when returning the video would be there ready to resume….I tried everything I
could think of, I was forced to take screenshots of the name and timeline so I
could do another search then scrub the timeline to where the screenshot showed
I had stopped.

One suggestion, equally as good was emailing yourself the link to the
video…then having to scrub to your previous spot….

I finally found a way so I thought I would pass to others.

This works both on the iPad and iPhone….when you are ready to stop
watching…..DON’T stop the video, let it play and TURN OFF your devise….simply
turn it off with the video playing.

When you reopen it will reappear, you can use any other app and come back to
YouTube hours or days later and resume your last video from the spot you turned
off your devise…..

I’ve tried this several times and it works…..

Re: [MacGroup] An Unbelievable Phishing

2017-07-20 Thread Bill Rising
I was curious about this because the links all pointed to 'value.sears.com',
which doesn't seem all that bad that is, until you see that every single
link points to the same place with the same tag.

A quick google search on 'sears phishing' says that this attack, complete with
links pointing to 'value.sears.com' seems to have been going since 2013,
sometimes getting people so irate at the real Sears that they have vowed never
to shop there again.

Re: [MacGroup] solar eclipse

2017-07-20 Thread Jonathan Fletcher
Harry,

Looking through an OPTICAL viewfinder of a digital camera is dangerous. Looking
at a DIGITAL viewfinder is not. There is no way that an LED pixel can reproduce
a fraction of the brightness of the sun. You’re safe there, but be careful if
you are looking through OPTICS at the sun.

Modern Image sensors can handle way more light than the infamous TV camera they
burnt out on the moon when the astronauts pointed it accidentally at the sun.
(Anyone remember that? First TV pictures from the moon and they blow up their
camera!)

It’s best to just use an app on the iPhone, but on other digital cameras you
can turn down the ISO to a really low number to cut back the sensitivity of the
sensor. I would turn it as low as it can go. Even then it might behoove you to
add a neutral density filter in front of the lens just in case. Any camera
store would have one to fit your camera. Even taping a small one over the lens
of your iPhone might be a good idea as well.

Here’s a nice PDF on the subject on NASA’s site, that also mentions an add-one
telephoto lens, which is also a great idea.
https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/Photographing%20the%20Eclipse%20with%20your%20Smartphone.pdf

To get the best quality you don’t want to have to use the DIGITAL zoom on the
iPhone, or any camera for that matter. A telephoto add-on would greatly
increase the quality of the shots. For that matter, you should probably just
get a telephoto for your camera if one is available, because you’re likely to
use it more than an awkward and wobbly attachment to your phone. A 200mm (35mm
equivalent) would be about right. Ask at your local camera store.

Oh, and a tripod. Gotta have a tripod.

You are registered under the address chuba...@gmail.com
and are trying to post using a different,
unregistered, return address. When you reply, the reply comes from the
chuba...@gmail.com address, to which the mail was
sent. If you send a new post from the unregistered address, the list software

Yes Tom the address we all have is the one on this email, but you can’t send to

then tell him your name and email listed here. He should see it this way.

Well, if you saw my previous post on my wife and I eating with the cows it
struck me as strange I could also be in Clarksville buying Pizza gift

ours…bummer..some things at Sears I do like.

2017-07-20 Thread Jonathan Fletcher
Wow, John. Ya think ya know a guy, and then you find out he’s a pizza junkie.

So, I guess your first clue was that you DIDN’T actually buy a stack of pizzas
at your friendly neighborhood Sears? (I know _I_ always think “SEARS!” when I
feel like a pizza!)

Or was is something else that gave it away?

Jonathan

No Tom, something must be slightly different with your email than what Lee (the
administrator) has on file. You might drop him a note so he will know to make
the changes.

I googled your question and got several apps appearing that supposely make it
safe using the iPhone.
Here is an article that just appeared:

Re: [MacGroup] solar eclipse

2017-07-20 Thread John Robinson
I don’t see how in the world it would hurt the camera, look at the photo’s of a
welder’s torch with the flame white hot inches from the camera…the temperature
of the camera won’t change, the brightness of the light is hitting an object
that can’t be hurt like the eye.

Look on the internet for previous photo’s and video’s of an eclipse, now maybe
you would want to put on a filter on to prevent a blowout of the image?

[MacGroup] Those in the know....how did this happen?

2017-07-20 Thread John Robinson
This afternoon my wife wanted to go eat at StreamCliff Farms….very close to
North Vernon, IN…in the boonies would be an understatement….we were grazing
with the cattle.

My wife’s Verizon iPhone had NO service….so when I took my laptop into the
restaurant my Verizon Mi-Fi had NO service…so hopefully my AT iPhone would
have service….nope, completely dead, nothing

However I noticed the iPhone had connected itself to the Mi-Fi and I had full
bars on the Wi-Fi radar icon…what?

I started the program I use to collect the market data….it launched and was
soon connected and collecting data….I did the export at 2:45 and could then
close everything down.

SO, how in the world could this have worked? Neither of the services had
connectivity to any tower…all were completely dead…yet together I had great
strength and I could see the tick by tick data coming in and I was able to
download the data.

I can’t figure it out. A Fluke? A unique way to connect to the outside world?

Just wondering.

John

[MacGroup] solar eclipse

2017-07-20 Thread Harry Jacobson-Beyer
can I use a digital camera or my iPhone camera to take photos of the eclipse
without damaging the camera/iPhone?

I have eclipse viewing glasses and know not to look at the sun through the
camera without wearing the glasses.

Thanks.
