[MacGroup] Twice-failed install of new macOS X update (ver. 10.13.3)

2018-02-01 Thread preston....@twc.com
Tried twice to do the update/install for the new macOS X update (ver. 10.13.3)
for my desktop. Previously existing OS is ver. 10.13.2.

Any indications anyone knows of WHY this update/install is failing?

Pls & thx,

Re: [MacGroup] copy text in a PDF file

2018-02-01 Thread John Robinson
Tom,

On the Mac I use Acrobat from Adobe, you can copy text from a PDF with that
software.

I’m winding down for the day when your question came in, so I loaded a PDF from
an IBM article on the iPad about deep learning.

Opening the PDF in iBooks allows you to drag around the text you want & copy
as you see.

“Until now, deep learning has largely run on single server because of the
complexity of moving huge amounts of data between different computers. The
problem is in keeping data synchronized between lots of different servers and
processors
In it announcement early Tuesday, IBM (ibm, -1.16%) says it has come up with
software that can divvy those tasks among 64 servers running up to 256
processors total, and still reap huge benefits in speed. The company is making
that technology available to customers using IBM Power System servers and to
other techies who want to test it.”

As long as it’s actually text (not a placed graphic) within the PDF doc, I have
opened a PDF in Preview and copy/paste the text info.

[MacGroup] copy text in a PDF file

2018-02-01 Thread tom
Is there a free application that has the ability to copy text in a PDF file?
I need to do this for a research I’m working on.
Thanks

Whatever Jonathan said, I enjoyed it. Good laugh. And may attract a few small
farmers.

Re: [MacGroup] MacGroup Digest, Vol 106, Issue 1

2018-02-01 Thread John Robinson
Really, guess what I thought was a GEICO form of advertising is not the image
the community wanted to publish.

I was viewing it as a business owner that had never heard of FileMaker, a low
tech way of telling what was possible for the common man….

A, John…

Why’d you have to go and do that?

Now I have to make my disclaimer:

[The so-called “ad” that FileMaker has put out has not generated the universal
acclaim amongst the FileMaker developer community that FMI was perhaps
expecting. In fact, many (many) developers (including yours truly) find the
video insulting and humorless, and FileMaker’s marketing goals,
incomprehensible.]
