I have gettext 0.18.1.1_2 installed and just tried to upgrade to 0.18.2_0. The
strange thing is that it builds, but then it won't merge. I decided to post
here before filing a ticket, but it seemed like an issue that might be specific
to me. I am running macports on OS 10.6.8.

upgrade enabled the universak variant (which is by default chosen by my
macports).
For some reason it seemed like Macports thought the files were from an
unregistered port even though I am sure I never disturbed anything

Yes, that's why I wrote my macports (atm of writing I just didn't remember
where I set +universal to be default. My point was that I had the op's problem
