But from a computer screen that's interesting,

On the ATV the home videos show up in the Movies category. In the
iTunes app on the Mac I am looking at this in the Movies section. I am
not sure if it will work but I am going to check the ATV after I pull
the plug to see if it sets things straight. No I don't use iTunes Match

I am spinning my wheels on ice regarding iTunes. I booted High
Sierra from its USB drive. It has iTunes version 12.8 (current is 12.9).
I wanted to see if my home videos were there but the 12.8 will not read
a database file created in the newer version.
Any idea what or how
I’ve done something similar. I just held my phone maybe 6” away from the
screen, if it didn’t pick it up right away then I altered the angle of the
phone until it did. Never had an issue.
