I am glad someone else brought this up as I have 2 macs. One is a mac
mini from 2018 and is an intel machine with 16 GB of ram and a mac book
air m1 which I just got about a month ago and both have the instaololer
in progress box that comes up a click of either the trackpad or
CMD+I then scroll down to open with picker item and choose VLC as default and
then check the checkbox for open all with this app.

running.
You also might want to look at what applications you have set to run
automatically at start up. See if eliminating some of these start up

it matters not. It was not plugged in today and still got the "installer
in progress" dialog.
