Why are you using cmd-shift-g and typing? Just open the window the books are coming from and open the window they are going to. Then Do cmd-c to copy and cmd-accent to go to the other window and cmd-v to paste. And i suspect if your view is changing, there's a reason; I could be wrong but I

Okay, Now I see why you are using cmd-shift-g. I think if you just opened the drive on the desktop it might ultimately be easier and your view shouldn't change. But if you think it's easier to do cmd-shift-g, you can type part of the / Vol and tab and it will complete and you can just do the
