I too went to the Apple store this afternoon along with my wife. I was impressed with the weight shape and size of the watches. Joanne already gave a very accurate description of the watches so it doesn't need repeating. Though more expensive I chose to purchase the 42mm stainless steel watch

From my understanding of what the watch specialist told me, yes, it is interchangable. As far as what to what, i'm not sure. But, you can also configure your apple sport watch to the apple watch strap itself. From my prospective, i don't see why not. The watch shape itself doesn't change. the
