then use quicktime to make a new audio recording. If that fails to
produce audio in the recording then there is something wrong besides
just Skype. Could be most anything including a bad connector or cable.

Okay, I've never used QuickTime, and as I say, the mic works when assisted by
an amplifier--even one not designed for mics but for guitars.
