Hi donna,
All good, thanks for letting me know. I used that command in the
distant past with older Mac OS. I think this is working pretty well over all
and I’m looking forward to fine tuning it.
the tips from this thread are very helpful.

Hi Eric,
Sorry, my bad. I was in the car, so not at my computer at the time. I did
think I had done that before, but maybe that command has been removed. Or
maybe I'm just imagining that I did it that way. But you are right, saying
"computer, what time is it?" does not work. Sorry for the
Hi All,
This is really a lot of fun. I’m focussing on the ways the computer
will follow commands I ask it. I just created a command to start a new email
and it works great.
One glitch I’m noticing. When I do something like say “computer, start Siri.”
it actually starts repeating
Best wishes,

Agreed, it used to be there before Siri, but now does not work for me nor does
"computer tell me a joke", and I know I tried that in Sierra when I was first
playing with Siri and dictation.
I do wonder what the Safari "Make this speakable" command is actually doing.
Best
Eric,
I was speaking of the automator app that has been discussed on this list a
little. Automator is a application that allows one to drag a set of fairly
standard sequences into an order and have them be performed. It is supposed to
be the common man's answer to AppleScript. So you can
Hi donna,
saying” computer, what time is it.” doesn’t do anything on my computer
and I don’t see that as a command. Did you set that up on your own? Siri
works but is more awkward.
The more I play with this and learn commands the more enjoyable it is. I like
keeping my hands on
Hi Eric,
That’s a piece of cake. Just say computer, what time is it. Alternatively, you
can start Siri, and ask Siri what time it is.
Cheers,
Donna

Hello,
Trying some fancy Apple Mail formatting here… So might need to resend without
that.
Find /Library/Scripts/VoiceOver (command-shift-G in Finder is your friend
here).
Find the Get Time of day script.
Copy this to your home library Scripts folder.
Save a copy as a runnable script.
Add a
Hi Donna,
Sweet! That works perfectly and I don’t even have to do any fancy work.
My next goal is to be able to ask my computer for the time.
Before I work on assigning a command do you have a idea for that?
I actually like being able to use a mix of hands on keyboard work and talk

Hi Jonathan, I’m just getting started but if you can assign a key stroke like
command s to something it looks like you can assign that in the dictation area
in accessibility in system preferences. that should give you the functionality.

Eric,
To Start Siri using dictation, just say "Start Siri.

Glad to hear you got it working. I personally don't use dictation much I just
have learned to think through my fingers. My code to switch sound devices could
be very cool if it was set up as a speech item. Did you see any of the
instructions to add automator actions to speech?
OK,
I got it working again.
I went to accessibility and dictation. I first went to the commands
table and unchecked and rechecked each item and . that seemed to give me back
most functions. I tried to check the advanced button in this area but it
didn’t seemed to stay
Hi Jonathan,
the press FN key twice is working for text dictation for me. It
doesn’t work for the commands I was using with the computer keywords like
“select all” or go to beginning.
I keep thinking it must be something I have done to mess this up as it
used to work nicely.
Look at the dictation area of the Keyboard system preferences. I generally
prefer using the hit Fn button twice to associating with a keyword. I have
found otherwise sometimes Voiceover causes dictation to start.
All the commands listed in the Accessibility area should still be available.
